Draugen – New First-Person Survival Horror for Xbox One?

Draugen concept web

Red Thread Games has announced that the Norwegian Film Institute has awarded them with a $144,000 grant for a brand new first-person survival horror game entitled “Draugen”.

Draugen is set amongst the deep fjords and towering mountains of Norway’s awe-inspiring west coast during the 1920’s. The game is a dark and disturbing journey into the pitch black heart of Norwegian national romanticism, as seen through the eyes of an American nature photographer, botanist and entomologist. The story – inspired by Scandinavian literature, legends and fairytales, as well as Norse mythology and the Icelandic sagas delves into the deepest, darkest secrets of a remote fishing community where every single soul has mysteriously vanished.

As the player explores the tiny settlement, gathering clues and memories, and unearthing the truth behind a terrible tragedy, they will learn more about the history of the village and its inhabitants. And they will come to see that behind even the most innocent of facades lurks the potential for malice.

But there is more to this place than meets the eye.

From time to time, a woman in black can be spotted in the distance. Who is she, and what is her connection to this place? Who is the little girl singing broken lullabies as the sky begins to darken? And when night falls, and those last few, precious drops of kerosene in the lamp feed a fragile, flickering flame, what hides out there in the darkness and in the cold, black sea?

Discover the clues. Uncover the memories. Decipher the past. Survive the night.

Draugen – Norwegian, meaning “the Draug” – is an undead creature from Norse mythology. The original Norse meaning of the word is ghost, but unlike traditional ghosts the Draug has a corporeal body and physical abilities. Draug reside in their watery graves, guarding the treasures and secrets that were buried with them. And they will protect those secrets at any cost…

Draugen is currently in development for PC/Mac/Linux and next-generation consoles.

Whoop whoop, I’ve always imagined myself lighting Zombies on fire and then walking through the flames for that ‘hardcore effect’.

  • Heatwave DLC three characters – Purchase fireproof suits for everyone and learn how to craft incendiary bullets — $1.99

Developed by Eko Software, How to Survive puts players in the center of the action as someone who, after an accident, finds themselves on an island amidst a small archipelago off the coast of Colombia … but there are other inhabitants, many who are undead. There is nothing quite like being surrounded by a brain-hungry horde of zombies to get the adrenaline flowing … What will you do? Who will you trust? How will you survive?

The Walking Dead: Season 2 Revealed

The Walking Dead Season Two Box

With Season 4 of the TV show now officially under way on FOX it was only a matter of days before we heard an announcement around Season 2 of Telltale’s BAFTA Award winning series based on the same comics from Robert Kirkman, the Eisner Award-winning creator and writer of  The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead: Season Two – A Telltale Games Series will continue the story of Clementine, a young girl orphaned at the outset of the undead apocalypse, now left to her own devices to seek safety and survive in a world gone mad.  Now assuming the role of an ordinary child, players will struggle to outwit both the dead and the living in situations that will test their morals and control the flow of the story through their decisions and actions.

The terrifying nature of Robert Kirkman’s world has allowed Telltale to push the boundaries of interactive drama in video games to a place that has had fans anxious to know what will happen next in this series. Today we can finally lift the veil, albeit only a little, on how this story will continue, and we’ll soon be putting players in the shoes of a lead role that will challenge their expectations of how to survive in a world where no one can be trusted.

said Dan Connors, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games.

Expected to premier later this year, The Walking Dead: Season Two – A Telltale Games Series will consist of five episodes that will be released over the course of the season and will conclude in 2014.
