Blackwood Crossing coming to Xbox

Blackwood Crossing

I like it when UK based developers announce a new game. It fills me a small sense of pride that we can produce so many amazing titles from out nation of tea-drinking folk. Brighton based PaperSeven have today announced a new title heading to Xbox One.

Blackwood Crossing is a story-driven first-person adventure game. This will explore the relationship between Scarlett and Finn. These orphaned siblings are growing apart as Scarlett comes of age and leaves childhood behind. When they cross paths with a mysterious figure, a seemingly ordinary train ride evolves into a magical story of life, love and loss.

PaperSeven are a newly formed studio made up of and founded by former Disney Black Rock Studio developers. The studio’s aim is to create games with emotional themes to take players on meaningful yet unpredictable journeys.Blackwood Crossing looks to be ticking those boxes from very early on in the Studio’s life.

Co-founder of PaperSeven, Alice Guy;

This is our first game since forming PaperSeven and we are immensely proud to be announcing it. There’s been some fantastic narrative adventure games coming out in recent times – we’re hoping to take a place at this table whilst offering something different to what’s come before. Blackwood Crossing is evidence of our desire to explore experiences with depth and meaning, and create characters that challenge the often cliched gaming landscape.

PaperSeven will be partnering up with Vision Games Publishing to bring Blackwood Crossing to Xbox One in 2016. There’s a little bit more about the game, here.

Mafia III Collectors Edition revealed

2K have announced what to expect from the Mafia II Collectors Edition.

The Mafia III Collector’s Edition includes:

  • Mafia III: Official Soundtrack of New Bordeaux – 180 gram vinyl pressing featuring some of the 60’s greatest hit makers, including Otis Redding & Carla Thomas, Sam Cooke, The Animals, and more. The vinyl is a sampling of the larger in-game soundtrack, that includes an eclectic mix of Rock, Rhythm and Blues, and Pop, all colliding against a backdrop of war, civil unrest, and sweeping social changes that defined the 1960s.
  • Mafia III: Original Game Score – 180 gram vinyl pressing of the original game score for Mafia III. Composed by Jesse Harlin and Jim Bonney, two of the industry’s great composers, the Mafia III original game score is a Rhythm and Blues inspired tour through a city ruled by organised crime and corrupt officials, and the setting for Lincoln Clay’s emotional story of loss and revenge.
  • Exclusive Collectible Art Prints – Two lithographs from Playboy and the Alberto Vargas Estate representing a vast collection of art for players to discover in-game.
  • The Art of Mafia III Collectable Art Book – A 56-page visual look at the creation of New Bordeaux, a new game world fashioned after New Orleans in the summer of 1968.
  • Lincoln Clay Replica Dog Tags – 1960s US military issue replicas. These are the tags of a combat-hardened Vietnam vet fueled by the need for military-grade revenge against the Italian Mafia.
  • Faux Leather Establishment Drink Coasters – Representing the Paradiso Casino and Sammy’s in-game criminal establishments, these aren’t just souvenirs, but symbols of Lincoln Clay’s motivations for revenge.
  • Season Pass – Future post-release downloadable content bundled at a discount.

There’s Trouble in Zombopolis in new PvZ2 update

Trouble in Zombopolis

When I reviewed Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, it was my first experience of the first person side of PopCap’s classic take on the defence title. It’s great fun and EA and PopCap have released a new free update for the game.

Titled Trouble in Zombopolis Part One, this huge new content adds a giant new map, two crazy characters and over 1,200 new character customisation items. This really is a huge update, weighing in at a hefty 5.3GB. This will add Breakfast Brainz and Toxic Citron, pictured above.

Dive into Zombopolis, the biggest zombie map ever created. Here, Dr. Zomboss and the zombies are plotting to build a Mega Zombot that may put the fate of plant-kind in grave danger.

In addition to the new massive map, new characters and new items, Trouble in Zombopolis will also offer gameplay balancing.

Zombopolis will open up to players as the most massive zombie city ever. This new Herbal Assault map gives the player sewers, streets, buildings and more to battle it out in. Take control of the toaster helmeted Breakfast Brainz who can fire waffles from his fists to ward off the invading plants. Alternatively, handle Toxic Citron, sporting some new abilities over regular Citron.

Part of the balancing improvements include increasing Sunflower’s damage output and reducing Electro Brainz damage. The developer have improved the Boat Blast Mini-Game in the docks in the Backyard Battleground. Compete with friends in a new leaderboard for this part of the game.

There is also a whole ream of bug fixes for characters, quests and general in-game goodness. These can be found on the official PvZGW2 blog here.

So, fire up Plants Vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 and expect to be introduced to Trouble in Zombopolis part one and all the content and fixes that it contains.

Here’s the launch trailer, it’s available now.
