New Styx: Shards of Darkness images show off Korrangar

Styx: Shards of Darkness

It’s creeping along in the shadows and would appear to be with us soon. The sequel to 2014’s Styx: Master of Shadows looks to be heading to Xbox One in the first quarter of 2017. To set up the hype train for the new title, Cyanide Studio and Focus Home Interactive have released a small batch of screenshots into the light.

Styx: Shards of Darkness picks up where Master of Shadows left us. After taking care of business in City of Thieves Thoben, our green-skinned Amber addict, Styx agrees to steal an ambassador’s scepter in exchange for vast quantities of the magical Amber. It’s not long before this task takes an unexpected turn and Styx is thrust into a dangerous world of shady politics and powerful magic.

Styx: Shards of Darkness

In Shards of Darkness, Styx has access to a far greater arsenal of tools and abilities to fit with a range of playstyles. Hunt guards with potent Amber powers, or stealthily avoid them. Teleport yourself into a newly hatched Styx clone or spend time on the fresh crafting system. This will allow you to adapt to situations as you progress, giving you the ability to craft lethal traps and other devices from components stolen on your adventures.

Styx: Shards of Darkness

This open-ended approach extends beyond Styx himself. Shards of Darkness will feature highly vertical environments, far grander and more non-linear than the previous title. There is more than one way to achieve each objective, trying out many different routes and tactics along the way. Lurk in the shadowy depths or launch silent and deadly attacks from above. How Styx progresses will be entirely up to you.

The four images released show off the heavily guarded Port of Korrangar, airships in flight and the impish nature of the titular hero himself.

Styx: Shards of Darkness

Styx: Shards of Darkness is heading for a first quarter release on Xbox One. Should you decide to preorder, you’ll get access to the exclusive Akenash set, granting you the iconic outfit and dagger seen in Styx’s first adventure.

Eddie The Eagle earns a videogame world record with STEEP

Ever thought of playing a game whilst in a vertical wind tunnel? Ubisoft have.

As a promotional stunt for the upcoming extreme winter sports title STEEP, Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards became the first person to successfully play a videogame whist in a vertical wind tunnel with 90mph winds keeping him afloat.

Competing against two pro skydivers, Eddie finished in the medal positions whilst playing a wingsuit race on Mont Blanc.

Eddie previously achieved hero status in the late eighties, when he became a British ski jumping world record holder and Britain’s first representative in the Olympic sport since 1929.

When asked about taking on the STEEP challenge, Eddie said:

I couldn’t wait to give it go. I love a challenge but this was unlike anything that I’d ever tried before. As soon as I started playing, I was determined to glide past that finishing line.

Tom Goldberger, Senior PR Manager at Ubisoft, said:

When we first developed the concept of playing a videogame in a wind tunnel, we instantly knew that there was only one person that we could call to take on the STEEP challenge. Along with being a British icon and an absolute gent, Eddie stunned us all by not only mastering the challenge, but landing himself in the medals table too.

We have to admit, this is a pretty cool stunt and achievement, and whilst we won’t be trying anything quite as daring when we finally get our hand on STEEP, we are looking forward to the opportunity to ski, wingsuit, snowboard and paraglide in the game’s open world.

Capcom announce Resident Evil 7 collectors edition, cross save and 4k support

Capcom have release some further details about their latest installment of the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil 7 :Biohazard will feature a cross save facility that will work between Xbox One and PC. Microsofts play anywhere scheme has proven to be quite successful and having played Gears of War 4 using the scheme I must say I’m a bit of a fan of it. The play anywhere scheme doesn’t go without is hiccups though and it’s unclear whether or not one purchase of Resident Evil will cover your for both the PC and Xbox One versions.

While Resident Evil 7 is looking like it will cure even the hardest case of constipation, you will be able to get it in all it’s glory  as the latest details also show that it will also be playable in 4k.

The European Collectors Edition has also been announced and will is also available for pre-order from today and includes some amazing stuff.

Included in the Resident Evil 7 biohazard Collector’s Edition:

  • Highly detailed 7” tall replica of the Baker Family Mansion
  • 20th Anniversary Resident Evil Artbook
  • Dummy Finger 16GB USB Drive
  • 5 Lithographs featuring art from Resident Evil 7 biohazard
  • An alternative inlay for your copy of the game
  • Survival Pack: Action Set DLC – which includes a number of useful consumable items and an instant unlock of the challenging ‘Madhouse’ difficulty setting
  • Premium Packaging

The premium packaging sounds interesting… oh well I hope it’s not wrapped in skin or something. You can pre-order Resident Evil 7 from Game and only. Game will also have an exclusive Steelbook version of the game you can also pre-order. The Survival Pack: Action Set DLC is exclusive to the Collector’s Edition and Steelbook Edition of the game .

As you can see Resident Evil 7 is brushing up quite nicely. It’s nice to see Capcom going with a more atmospheric/psychological horror approach and not the action shooter style gameplay of it predecessors. With a release of January the 24th 2017 Resident Evil 7 will set the bar high for the Horror genre and I for one am really looking forward to it. With a timed release of the VR version of Resident Evil and also games such as Agony also diving into VR then there has never been a better time to test your mettle as a gamer.

Meet more of The Dwarves in new character trailers

It’s been a few days since the first Dwarves character trailer introduced us to Boindil. THQ Nordic and King Art Games have since released two further character trailers for the RPG which will be hitting the Xbox One platform on the 1st of December.

Up first is Rodario.

Rodario isn’t your usual Dwarf. Firstly, it’s apparant that he’s not actually a Dwarf. He’s human. Not only is he the most versatile, but Rodario is also the most theatrical hero of the party of adventurers. Rodario likes to dazzle his foes with his acting prowess as well as his fighting skills. In addition to his more thespian talents, Rodario carries an effective flamethrower and other tools. With this deadly firepower, he can ensure that his enemies do not get too close to him, but if they manage to get within striking distance, he uses his outstanding acting skill to fake his own death, or even to persuade those he is fighting against, to fight for him instead.

In extreme cases, Rodario will even disguise himself as one of his enemies so that they will ignore him and he can strike when they least expect it. The Flamethrower he carries is best used to disperse large groups of foes, as does the Acid Cloud he can throw. The Cloud of Sleep that he also wields makes those he is fighting against drift off instantly into the land of nod. Add these to his acting ability and it’s clear that this slightly over-sized Dwarf is the most versatile of opponents.

Second up, and the new Dwarves trailer released today, is Narmora.

Narmora is the assassin of the party. She specialises in single combat scenarios, but is equally as devastating fighting groups of enemies. Narmora is able to use the rarest of Dwarves skill, ‘Shadow Step’. This allows her to appear anywhere on the battlefield in the blink of an eye or to teleport back and forth to quickly assassinate up to 10 targets with her ‘Assassination’ or ‘Shadow Death’ skills. Silent, swift, but possibly not the most resilient.

Rodario and Narmora, along with Boindil, are a few of the 15 playable characters that will be available in The Dwarves when it is released on the 1st of December.

Will you be joining the Dwarven Party?

Watch Dogs 2’s full multiplayer experience going live

After a few teething problems at launch, Watch Dogs 2’s seamless multiplayer experience should be rolling out across Xbox One later this evening after the first phase of deployment went live at 16:00 for PlayStation 4.

The full experience will give players the following multiplayer options:

  • Invite friends to co-op or search for new co-op partners
  • Hack into a rival hacker’s world
  • Find targets for Bounty Hunts or trigger a bounty on themselves

If this deployment proves successful, the team will then unleash the second phase – Nearby bounty targets and Prime_Eight rivals – that can be hunted without needing to enter matchmaking via the in-game phone app. The second phase will also introduce friendly DedSec hackers that can be recruited to help you complete DedSec events.

Conan Exiles’ new gameplay trailer looks a titan

Conan Exiles

It’s been a little while since Funcom revealed anything new about Conan Exiles. Almost six months it turns out. This new open-world survival title is set in the Conan the Barbarian universe. Well, Funcom have today not only revealed a new gameplay trailer for the game, but also a news of the release date.

Conan Exiles will be a wholly open-world survival game, inspired by the Robert E. Howard stories. You will have to fight to survive while building in order to dominate your enemies. This vast, treacherous world will allow for both single and multi-player gaming.

The game promises to be more than just an exercise in foraging for food and water though. You can journey, like Conan, through a vast and seamless world filled with the ruins of ancient civilisations. Discover the dark history of these lands and it’s buried secrets as you seek to conquer and dominate the exiled lands for yourself.

Each gamer will start out with nothing but their bare hands in Conan Exiles, ready to forge the legacy of your clan. Create simple tools and weapons and use them to develop your simple camp into a gigantic, imposing fortress, surrounded by an entire city. You could enslave the bandits of the exiled lands and bend them to your will over the Wheel of Pain.

Cover yourself in glory, or the blood of your enemies as you sacrifice their still beating hearts on the blood-caked altars of your chosen deity. This could be your true path to power and glory. As an ultimate act of your domination, summon the avatar of your chosen god and use it to lay waste to your foes as they cower in their homes.

And breathe.

Sound fun? Want to get in on the action? Well, Funcom have revealed that the PC version will enter Early Access at the end of January 2017, but more importantly, in the Spring, Conan Exiles will enter the Xbox One Game Preview program.

Here’s the new trailer, for your enjoyment.
