July’s Games with Gold confirmed as Assault Android Cactus and Death Squared

Its that wonderful time of the month where we get to see what our free Xbox Games with Gold are. For the month of July we are getting Assault Android Cactus and Death Squared for the Xbox One, and for you 360 owners (and available on the Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility) are Splinter Cell Conviction and Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.

Assault Android Cactus is an arcade style twin stick shooter set in a vivid sci fi universe. Junior Constable Cactus is outside her pay grade when she responds to a distress call and ends up stranded on a crippled space freighter under attack by its own robot workers. Utilising a draining battery mechanic in place of lives, Assault Android Cactus challenges you to think fast and keep the bullets flying, blending the gameplay of western styled arena shooters with aspects of Japanese style bullet hell as you charge head first through transforming stages, massive boss battles and an eclectic cast of characters on the way to saving the day.

Death Squared is a cooperative puzzle game for 1, 2 or 4 players, best enjoyed with loved ones who don’t mind a little arguing for the greater good. Prove your teamwork skills in Death Squared as you solve puzzles together or die trying! Each player needs to guide a robot to a colour-coded goal, but the path is beset with deadly traps and hazards. Teams of players will need close observation and communication to keep each other alive and discover a solution together. Complete the main campaign in single player or with two players, then take a group into four-player Party Mode for the ultimate teamwork trial! For those that can’t get enough, head to the ‘Vault’ to find extra experiments recommended only for the brave.

Assassins Creed Odyssey gets publishing line-up

Ubisoft have announced the publishing line-up for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, including a novel, an art book and an official guide – all of which will be published worldwide starting this autumn. Through these books, fans will be able to step even further into the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as they deepen their knowledge of the game and its lore.

The broadening Ubisoft publishing collection aspires to provide fans with a wide variety of exclusive insights into their many worlds. The vast universe of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will be expanded beyond the game to explore the main story from Kassandra’s point of view, the artwork behind the beautiful and unique regions of the Golden Age of ancient Greece, and an official strategy guide.

Published by Ubisoft and Penguin Random House, the novelisation of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will tell the main story of the game from Kassandra’s point of view. Kassandra, a descendant of Leonidas, is caught in the turmoil of the Peloponnesian War. Following the prophecy of an oracle, she is left for dead by her family and escapes from Sparta. 17 years later, now a mercenary in Kephallonia, an unexpected turn of events causes her to set sail across war-torn Greece on an Odyssey to reunite her family and confront the ones who tore it apart. The author, Gordon Doherty, is a Scottish historical fiction writer who previously wrote the Legionary series, set in the Eastern Roman Empire in the late 4th century AD, and the Strategos Trilogy, set in 11th century Anatolia.

The Art of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, an art book published by Titan Books, will take readers on an epic voyage into the Golden Age of ancient Greece, a pivotal period that shaped the world and still influences today’s societies. Readers will explore the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as they discover its regions and secrets, and learn more about Kassandra and Alexios, their armor, their styles and the weapons they use to ply their deadly trade. Concept sketches, texture studies, character art and fully rendered paintings are accompanied by insightful comments and notes from the artists and developers.

The Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Official Collector’s Edition Guide, a guidebook published by Prima Games, is an indispensable tool for dedicated players. The guide contains a poster of the map, a special message to the fans, a general weapons and equipment guide, and a 100% completion walkthrough including the different branching stories, along with detailed maps flagged with all locations, collectibles and targets.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is an ambitious role-playing game that places choice at the center of the experience. The action takes place in Ancient Greece, a world rich with myths and legend, in fifth century BC during the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens. Embodying Alexios or Kassandra, a mercenary of Spartan blood sentenced to death by their family, players will embark on an epic journey from a young outcast to a legendary hero and uncover the truth about their mysterious first civilization lineage.

Three Fields Entertainment announce Danger Zone 2 and Dangerous Driving

Three Fields Entertainment are the brains behind Dangerous Golf and the Burnout inspired Danger Zone. Fans of the Burnout franchise keep a keen eye on what this studio are up to, as a lot of the talent working there are ex-Criterion, who of course were responsible for the Burnout games.

Life Is Strange 2 releasing on September 27th

DONTNOD Entertainment have announced that Episode 1 of Life Is Strange 2 will release on September 27th 2018. We don’t know much about the story or the setting of the sequel to the smash indie hit given the events of the previous game, but the developers have promised us more info will be released in August.

I was a huge fan of the original, and the 2017 prequel, so I am incredibly hyped for the proper sequel, and hopefully follow Max and Chloe on their next adventure.

Darwin Project moving to F2P on July 4th

Scavenger Studios have announced that their Battle Royale style game Darwin Project is moving to a free to play model on July 4th. Creative Director Simon Darveau updated the official website by saying “We are super excited to release the game free to play on Xbox. We made sure you guys can have a great social experience. We optimized the game and added the friend system. Can’t wait to have your feedback! See you in the arena !‘

The Darwin Project takes place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic landscape in the Northern Canadian Rockies. As preparation for an impending Ice Age, a new project, half science experiment half live-entertainment, is launched. It’s called the “Darwin Project” and it challenges participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous arena. The Darwin Project offers a competitive multiplayer third person survival experience featuring at its core a new gameplay innovation: the manhunt. In his or her path to victory, a player must survive extreme environmental conditions, track opponents, and set traps in order to win.

Bohemia Interactive announce Vigor on Inside Xbox

Creators of Day-Z, Bohemia Interactive, have had an exclusive title announced on the Inside Xbox show, titled Vigor. Set in Norway, it’s a survival game very similar to Day-Z, and will be released in the summer of 2018, so very soon!

The developers were quite insistent that it is not a Battle Royale game, as you can survive by running and hiding, and avoiding any enemy encounter. Weapons can be crafted at your home base by using blueprints, which need to be found in the world, and all of your resources can be lost if you do fail in an encounter with another player.

Another game on the way to get really excited about!

Ubisoft show first Gameplay of Skull and Bones

Ubisoft show first Gameplay of Skull and Bones

Piracy is Dead. Well, Ubisoft better hope it isn’t as their new Pirate game, Skull and Bones, has been given a brand new trailer for E3. Created by Ubisoft Singapore, it will release in 2019.

Skull and Bones is set in the Indian Ocean, where your aim is to steal every last coin and become the pirate no one can take down. You can choose your type of mission, much like Sea of Thieves, and it also takes place in a shared world, also very reminiscent of Rare’s pirate game. There is a huge amount of inspiration taken from Assassins Creed Black Flag.
