2K Games dropped an unexpected bombshell today and in doing so revealed how BioShock Infinite will feature a brand new form of play- the 1999 Mode, which is designed to challenge players in a variety of ways – each requiring substantial commitment and skill development. Are you ready to be tested?
1999 Mode has been described as a way of playing a more demanding version of gameplay. It will include tweaks and features that BioShock fans will not experience in a standard play-through of BioShock Infinite, no matter the difficulty level. During the 1999 mode gamers will face more permanent consequences of actions as well as demand that players pick specialisations, and focus on them!
In addition to these permanent decisions, 1999 Mode will feature demanding weapon, power, and health management. The mode also takes a much harder stand on player respawning, sending the gamer directly to a Game Over screen if he or she lacks the resources to be brought back to life.
It’s not for the faint of heart.
BioShock Infinite will be released later this year.
