Here at TiX Towers, we love an Indie developer. We also love first-person shooters that offer up the opportunity to shoot your friends in a flurry of hot metal. Derby based Indie studio Bulkhead Interactive had offered just that with their FPS, Battalion 1944, with the small matter of a Kickstarter campaign to get the game developed and published.

Happily, Battalion 1944 has smashed it’s Kickstarter initial goal in just three days, so with 26-odd days left, they’re busy organising some stretch-goals for new backers. Bulkhead were formed as part of a merger between two studios, Deco Digital and Bevel Studios. If you think you’ve heard of those somewhere, then you’ve probably played one of their titles already. These two studios collaborated for the recent Games With Gold puzzler, Pneuma: Breath of Life.

So, what can we expect from the game? It’s already gathering the plaudits for potentially being a Call of Duty killer and Bulkhead are promising a raw, skills-based shooter that rewards your own playing style rather than overloading you with high-powered abilities and equipment. Tight, focused maps are the order of the day. These will be based around the team infantry combat model that Battalion 1944 is looking to create, all set in thoroughly realistic environments.

Battalion 1944’s Xbox One release date has yet to be announced, but you can be sure we’ll be all over it when it is.
