Jon Hare’s new Soccer game “Sociable Soccer” coming to Xbox One

We all loved Sensible Soccer back in the day, well, if you are as old as me you would! The great news is that the absolute legend that is Jon Hare, and his Tower Studios, working in partnership with Finnish studio Combo Breaker, have announced that Sociable Soccer, Hare’s latest fast-paced, arcade take on the beautiful game, will launch in summer 2017 on Steam Early Access with Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and mobile platforms to follow. A trailer has also been released, which you can check out below!

“Sociable Soccer is a super quick, adrenaline soaked football action game, an unholy alliance of Guardiola’s tiki taka and Klopp’s gegenpressing, where ultra sharp passing and shooting can easily be thwarted by a well timed slide tackle.. something like Rocket League in boots”, said Jon Hare, Designer and Director of Sociable Soccer. “After nearly two years in development we are excited to be launching soon on Steam Early Access. The game has a whole world of soccer already in place and online and offline matches are playing like a dream. As we sprint towards full commercial launch in late 2017 we invite gamers and football lovers to become part of our game changing, new sports franchise as we add new features, game modes and updates every few weeks”.

‘Godfather of football games’ Jon Hare, designed two of the biggest football franchises of the 20th century in Microprose Soccer and the genre defining Sensible World of Soccer, one of the 10 most influential video games of all time according to Stanford University. Faithful to his sports game pedigree Sociable Soccer features over 1,000 club and national teams from around the world and over 30,000 players, with 67 international football trophies to compete for and lighter friendly game modes including trademark custom teams. Beneath its sleek visual presentation lies a game of significant complexity with pinpoint controls and tactical depth. Easy to play and hard to master with single player, classic local multiplayer, online multiplayer and manager modes all supported. Sociable Soccer is a perfect blend of the instant playability of yesteryear with the power of modern technology.

Changes coming to Xbox Achievements?

In an interview with Windows Central, Xbox Vice-President Mike Ybarra has hinted at a possible change to the way achievements will work on the Xbox platform.

“We can do a lot more to reflect and let people show their gaming history and their status, whether it’s somebody who only plays multiplayer in Halo 5 at a professional level, maybe they only have 2,000 Gamerscore, you want to be able to celebrate that person.”

While Ybarra didn’t go into any details about how and when the changes will happen he also said, “We’re going to go big in the area of letting people show off and represent their gaming history and the type of gamer that they are, far more than we do with Gamerscore.”

I personally don’t see this as a change to the current system, but I do think we will see an addition to the current loved system that will reward those of you rack up 100’s of hours on multiplayer shooters.

Playing the For Honor Free Weekend will earn you a Rainbow 6 Charm

In news that will appeal to most of the Tix staff – due to our addictions to Rainbow 6 Siege – If you play the free weekend of For Honor, as covered by Rich here, then you will receive an exclusive Rainbow 6 charm, as seen above.

Ubisoft have clearly done this in order to get the reported 2 million player-base into another of their popular franchises, time will tell if it works! I will certainly be taking the bait!

If this appeals to you as well, check out the info below that shows you when For Honor is free in your home country and check out the website at https://forhonor.ubisoft.com/game/en-GB/free-weekend/

Battlefield 1 joins EA Access FREE in the Vault

Yes, it was announced a few weeks ago and now Battlefield 1 is available for free with EA Access on the Xbox One.

We loved it here at Tix, with Rich scoring it a whopping 9.5/10 and saying “Battlefield 1 is an incredible triumph, bringing the events of World War I to life without shying away from the tragedy of all those lives lost during the conflict. It’s bleak, beautiful, harrowing and thoughtful, and remarkably it’s still entertaining.”

You can read our Battlefield 1 review here!

Battlefield 1 arrives in the vault just ahead of the launch of the next big expansion pack – In The Name Of The Tsar, which we previewed as part of our E3 coverage.

Rugby 18 releases first “Making Of” video

Bigben and Eko Software have released the first video showcasing the making of their upcoming Rugby 18.

Nick Mullins and Ben Kay – official commentators for the English leagues and Rugby 18 – run through how their voices and audio was captured for the game. This is all part of recreating the atmosphere found in a stadium; the noise of the crowd, the commentary, the analysis and the anecdotes throughout the match.

A Wild Spotify Appears on Xbox One

After many years in the wilderness, Spotify has arrived on Xbox. Along with custom music on your Xbox, an integration that was sorely missing from Microsoft’s flagship console for some time, you can now stream from Spotify whilst playing your favourite games on Xbox.  Click to download!

Major Nelson has covered the basics over on his blog, with the following standing out to me:

  • App and background play is there for both Free or Premium Spotify subscribers
  • Control your music via Spotify Connect, so you don’t have to interrupt that clutch spree on Gears 4!

I, for one, will be looking forward to seeing what playlists are out there on the Xbox Game Hub! I am always on the lookout for something fresh.

Daughter Channels Loss as an Inspiration for Life is Strange: Before the Storm’s Emotionally Charged Soundtrack

As someone who connects with music – game and film soundtracks in particular – the latest video from Daughter and Life is Strange: Before the Storm gives me positive vibrations for the upcoming game release. This video follows on from the news that Adrian reported yesterday, which provides another sample of the incredible work that Daughter, the British indie folk trio, are creating for Before the Storm. You can pre-order the soundtrack over here if you so wish!

You’ll be able to play Episode 1 of Life is Strange: Before the Storm, entitled ‘Awake’, on August 31st. In the mean time, why not listen to the first song from their Before the Storm album on Spotify – which has just launched on the Xbox One and Xbox One S.

Life Is Strange: Before The Storm partners with British band “Daughter”

Square Exix have announce that Life Is Strange: Before The Storm will feature music by British indie-folk band Daughter. The original music score entitled “Music From Before The Storm” will be released via Glassnote Records/4AD on September 1st 2017. The game features all the tracks on Music from Before the Storm as well as additional licensed tracks including two classic tracks from Daughters back catalogue.

“Life is Strange is a game that evokes a lot of emotion in people and, alongside great storytelling and characterisation, it’s music that plays a huge role in this”, said Jon Brooke Vice President for Brand Marketing, Square Enix London Studios. “It was really important for us to find a great collaboration for original music alongside our licensed tracks to capture the raw emotion of our game and Daughter fit that bill perfectly. Once we’d heard all the tracks for the game we really wanted the album to have a full release so our fans could enjoy them over and over. We’re really thankful and excited to be on the brink of a Life is Strange Daughter album release, we hope everyone enjoys the tracks as much as we expect.”

“We are so proud to have written the soundtrack for “Life Is Strange: Before the Storm”, said Elena Tonra, Daughter Lead Singer. “It was our first experience working on an original soundtrack, and are so honoured to have been given the opportunity to work with the team. We loved the story on first read as it centres around realistic female lead characters who are emotional, intelligent, sensitive and badass in equal measure. I think the characters themselves have really inspired the soundscapes we have created. It was a pleasure to be involved.”

“We wanted to have fun with this project so we made something we felt could be a soundtrack for the characters in the game themselves”, said Igor Haefeli, founding band member. It was also important for us to make sure this collection of songs and pieces of music stood on their own so we really went that extra mile. We hope players and non-players alike will equally enjoy it.”

The Tracklist is as follows;
1. Glass
2. Burn It Down
3. Flaws
4. Hope
5. The Right Way Around
6. Witches
7. Departure
8. All I Wanted
9. I Can’t Live Here Anymore
10. Dreams Of William
11. Improve
12. Voices
13. A Hole In The Earth

Thumper releasing on Xbox in August – 4K Version hinted!

In case you missed the hype about Thumper in 2016, its a “Rhythm Violence” game where you play as a space beetle and your nemesis is a maniacal giant head. Wait, stay with me here dear reader, because its an awful lot better than it sounds.

Originally released on the PS4, PSVR and the Occulus VR system, Thumper gained many accolades in 2016, and was well up on peoples Game Of The Year lists, and it’s finally coming to Xbox One on August 18th 2017.

Marc Flury, co-founder of developer Drool said “If you’re looking forward to the release of Xbox One X this Fall, we hope to have more good news soon. For now, let’s just say we think Thumper looks amazing in native 4K!” which obviously points to an update to the game for Xbox One X when its released in November!

In an interview with Xbox Wire, Marc also said:

“Back in 2009, my co-developer Brian Gibson and I were blown away by the sudden wave of groundbreaking and successful indie games on Xbox 360. Classics like Braid, Super Meat Boy, and Castle Crashers inspired us to quit our jobs, build our own game engine, and start crafting Thumper from scratch. Our goal was to bring a unique vision of rhythm gaming to Xbox 360. Well, eight years and a console generation later, the dream is finally realized!

We think Thumper shines on Xbox One. The key element to “rhythm violence” is how good it feels to play. So of course, the Xbox One controller is ideal for our game because if feels so dang good! We’ve fine-tuned the game’s controls to feel perfect on the Xbox One. We also take advantage of the controller’s impulse trigger vibrations. As you scrape into rails, slam into turns, and slide across lanes, you’ll feel an immersive stereo vibration effect through the triggers.

We’re also excited to announce Thumper isn’t only coming to Xbox One on August 18. It will also debut in the Windows Store on the same day. The Windows 10 version of Thumper includes full integration with Xbox Live, so all your progress, achievements, and leaderboard rankings will be synced across both versions.”
