Skylanders Imaginators revealed

It’s no surprise that hit toys-to-life game, Skylanders, is getting another sequel, but this latest version is set to shake-up the formula a little. Alongside a set of new Skylander figures will come the ability to create your very own digital Skylanders with Skylander Imaginators’ character creator.

Since the launch of Skylanders, kids around the world have sent developer Toys For Bob, hand-drawn Skylanders with one special request: please bring my Skylander to life. We’re willing to bet more than a few adults sent drawing in as well, The majority of the This is Xbox team sure did. Well, This October, Activision and Toys for Bob will make that wish a reality. For the first time ever Portal Masters will be able unleash their imaginations by creating their very own Skylander.

Since we launched the very first Skylanders game, we have received countless letters and drawings from kids all over the world sharing their vision for their own Skylanders. No matter how in touch with our ‘inner kids’ we might think we are as adults, nothing comes close to the endless creativity that springs from the mind of an inspired kid,

said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing, Inc.

We’ve turned this year’s game into the ultimate blank canvas for kids’ imaginations so they can create and play their own Skylanders.

Skylanders Imaginators will supposedly gives players immense possibilities – including appearance, powers, abilities, name, catchphrase, musical theme and much more – to make the wildest Skylanders imaginable. Apparently allowing for more than a googol distinctive characters.

With the evil Kaos on a new quest to take over Skylands, it’s up to Portal Masters everywhere to create their own Skylanders – known as Imaginators – using the new elementally-aligned toy type call the Creation Crystal. Creation Crystals also allow players to transport their Imaginators to consoles at anytime, anywhere!

Skylanders Imaginators introduces Skylanders Senseis, all-new heroes who represent 10 powerful Battle Classes such as Knight, Sorcerer, Bowslinger, Brawler, and more. Skylanders Senseis help train created Imaginators by offering a range of benefits including unlocking super-cool Imaginator weapons, providing access to special areas in the game, as well as bestowing Secret Techniques across the Battle Classes. Senseis also have their own unique benefits including the extraordinary ability to unleash Sky-Chi – the ultimate Battle Class super move. There are a total of 31 Senseis, which include some fan-favourite villains who have been reformed and now fight for good!

Skylanders consistently delivers on innovative gameplay experiences. With customization a dominant trend in the consumer market, the fact that Skylanders Imaginators will allow kids to bring their own creations to life is a game changer and one our customers will enjoy,

said Richard Barry, Global Chief Merchandising Officer, Toys“R”Us, Inc.

We are proud to continue to serve as a marquee Skylanders destination ,  and look forward to fans’ excitement when the new Skylanders Imaginators game arrives this autumn.

Starting today, fans can pre-order Skylanders Imaginators  Starter Packs which includes two new Skylanders characters, a Creation Crystal, Portal of Power and the full game. Skylanders Imaginators will be available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One on the 14th October in the UK. And you can check out the reveal trailer and A Day at Skylanders HQ videos below:

Black Ops 3: Eclipse DLC finally released for Xbox

The wait is finally over and the second DLC for Black Ops 3, Eclipse has finally been released for Xbox.

Named Eclipse, the new dlc brings 4 new Multiplayer maps and the next chapter in the origins zombies experience, Zetsubou No Shima. The 4 new multiplayer maps are Verge, Rift, Spire, and Knockout.

  • Spire – takes Multiplayer combat to a futuristic sub-orbital airport terminal set high in the clouds. Multiple levels and open areas promote intense, mid-range combat around a clean, high-tech civilian environment. Watch your step, because one wrong move could send you plummeting back through the stratosphere.
  • Verge – In this re-imagination of the classic Call of Duty: World at War map, Banzai, Verge drops Multiplayer combat into the center of a distant post-apocalyptic future, where two warring factions are entrenched in constant battle over one of the few remaining water sources. Take control of the key bridge, fortresses, tunnel systems and waterfalls as you engage in high-speed action through this medium-sized map.
  • Rift – Head to the core of a harsh futuristic military complex, set high above an active caldera. Rift funnels and forces tight, intense engagements, where the only way through is forward. Utilize the unique core movement opportunities to outsmart and outplay enemies as you traverse the suspended rail system.
  • Knockout – Housed in a traditional Shaolin Temple with a retro twist, Knockout sets the stage for a bloody Kung Fu tournament … with guns. This mid-sized map showcases a sharp contrast between the mid-range engagements of the traditional exterior architecture and the tight close-quarters of an eclectic 1970’s styled interior.

In the latest chapter of the Zombies experience Zetsubou No Shima, the Origins characters find themselves stranded on a remote Pacific island. Continuing their mission to stop the Zombie apocalypse they face the horrors caused by the effects of Element 115 on human, plant and animal biology. The new chapter allows you to explore diverse environments from lush, tropical forest to the stark, overgrown laboratory facility. Will you be brave enough to use the zip lines or will you hide in the sewer systems to evade the Zombie horde.

As with every weekend since release this weekend sees another Double XP Weekend. The double weapon XP event starts today 20th May (usually 6pm GMT) and will run till the 23rd May.

For all you season pass holders the content is available to download now free of charge, and for non season pass holders it can be purchased via the online store. For further information about the latest DLC and all other related Black Ops 3 content check out the official website.

Microsoft and Team Dakota extinguish Project Spark

Some of you may have already noticed but you can no longer download Project Spark from the Xbox or Windows store and this is because after much consideration Microsoft and Team Dakota have decided to discontinue support for the game.

Starting last Friday, Project Spark disappeared from the Market Place and for all existing users the online service will discontinue after the 12th August, but what does this mean? Without an online service, players will no longer be able to download user content or upload any of their own. If you want to use user-generated content once the service is turned off then you need to download it before the 12th August. Also if your own creations have not been saved locally you will need to download them to your console or PC.

For those of you who purchased the Project Spark Starter Kit before it transitioned to its free to play state last fall or redeemed the code inside a retail box between Oct 5 2015 to May 13th 2016 then never fear. Microsoft will be crediting your account and this in turn can be exchanged in the Xbox Or Windows store to buy content. I know for a fact that some of these credits have gone out already so keep your eyes peeled. For more information on if you are eligible and how to receive the credit can be found here.

Project Spark COmmunity

On the official Project Spark site Community Manager Thomas Gratz posted “This was an extremely difficult decision for our team that we do not take lightly. When “Project Spark” transitioned away from active development last fall, many of our team members moved to other projects within Microsoft Studios. While this means there have been no layoffs at Microsoft, it also means it’s simply no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping Project Spark up and running with meaningful updates and bug fixes, so we have come to this hard decision.”

So there you have it, after 46 content packs, thousands of assets and 16 updates since launch and not including the hundreds of thousands of creations and experiences that have been created by its community, the community spark finally gets extinguished.

For further information around the discontinued support of the game check out the official site here. Also why don’t you drop us a comment and let us know your thoughts?

Is Battlefield Bad Company coming to backward compatibility?

Now we’re not ones for wild speculation…wait, yes we are. We speculated wildly last year about the possibility of Xbox 360 backward compatibility in the podcast, as well as the Call of Duty franchise cheating on Microsoft and getting into bed with Sony. Wild speculation is indeed a big part of our thought process, and with this generation of consoles being so unpredictable and dynamic, anything could happen.

So, what are we speculating about today? Why, Battlefield Bad: Company coming to backward compatibility, of course.

Battlefield BadCompany 2 1

If you head over to your Xbox One dashboard or to Major Nelson’s blog, you can watch the latest episode of This Week on Xbox, and in this latest episode Major Nelson talks with DICE about the Battlefield 1 multiplayer experience. As a joke, Major Nelson grabs a poster as he’s leaving their office, a poster of Battlefield: Bad Company. Is this a hint at a future backward compatible title or series of titles.

It’s very little to go on, and is quite possibly an entirely innocent joke, but releasing the Battlefield: Bad Company games, possibly as pre-order bonuses for those purchasing Battlefield 1, would be very much inline with other recent releases. Doom came with Doom 1 and Doom 2, Quantum Break came with Alan Wake and American Nightmare, Fallout 4 came with Fallout 3. Bundling backward compatible titles with a new iteration is a tried and tested practice.

However, let’s speculate a little further. With Call of Duty: Infinite bundling a remastered Modern Warfare with it, is it possible we’ll see Battlefield 1 come bundled with a Bad Company remaster?

It’s certainly a possibility, and one fans have been asking for. In fact it’s a bit of a mystery as to why we haven’t seen any more from the Bad Company series. In an interview with GameSpot in 2014, studio head Karl-Magnus Troedsson at DICE was asked why Bad Company 3 wasn’t in development and if the series was dead, he responded:

It’s never dead,

he went on to say:

You can always revive it, as with any TV series, movie, or IP. It’s going to come down to, if people really want it and if a team inside my group really wants to build it, then sure.

So with fans still saying they want it, the possibility of a Bad Company revival of some sorts is pretty high, our money is on the series coming to backward compatibility when Battlefield 1 releases in October, however, out hopes are behind the idea of a remaster coming bundled with the new game. Time will tell.

Microsoft announce end of Xbox 360 Production
