Curve Digital announce The Swindle on Xbox One

Steampunk. It seems to be in ‘in-thing’ at the moment. From Mr B. The Gentleman Rhymer to Dishonored, it’s cool to be slightly nerdy, with gadgets.

Curve Digital seem to want in on some of this cyber-organic goodness and have announced that this year, The Swindle will release on Xbox One.

The game, developed by Size Five Games, is described by developer Dan Marshall as “Spelunky crossed with Deus Ex”.

The Swindle is a cyber-crime platformer set in a wholly steampunk world and was originally only coming out on PC, and even then that was in doubt as Size Five cancelled it, only to revive it last year. The premise is simple; break in, hack their systems, steal their cash and get the heck outta there.

Here’s what Dan Marshall had to say on The Swindle back in October last year.

The idea is that you play yourself, up in your airship, running your little thieving empire. Like in Syndicate. The guys running around the levels are thieves for hire. If a thief dies or is caught, you hire a new one. The thieves are randomly generated as well, so when you’ve got a really cool-looking thief with a bad-ass name and a load of experience, and they die on a heist, it’s completely gutting. Like in XCOM.

From the console announcement trailer below, to me, it looks a bit Rick Dangerous crossed with the better bits of the old Hudson Hawk (there were better bits, honest) game from a long time ago. Any old-school gamers having a look, let us know what you think.

The Swindle is coming out on Xbox One sometime later this year and could be one to watch out for.
