DayZ Developer Ponders Xbox One

For years now Zombie related media; movies, TV, books (most recently comics) and games have been at the forefront of modern day pop culture and one of the biggest and highly anticipated PC games is DayZ. DayZ is a multiplayer open world survival horror video game in development by Bohemia Interactive and now it seems DayZ creator Dean Hall might be looking to port the title to Xbox One! If you haven’t heard of DayZ, and are wondering why this is even news, where have you been hiding? Under a rock?

The game was test-released on December 16, 2013, for PC via Steam, and is currently in early alpha testing. Just under 200,000 eager DayZ fans coughed $30 for an early access version of the title within the first 24 hours of its release. In under a month that number sky rocketed to over ONE MILLION. That’s right 1,000,000 gamers paid $30 for a game that wasn’t even finished. When it comes to game releases, there aren’t many as highly anticipated as DayZ.

It now seems Mr Hall might be looking to extend his reach however as a recent interview with Gamereactor confirms that the developer has been in “extensive” talks with Microsoft regarding porting the popular open-world zombie game to the Xbox One.

We’d certainly consider release on any feasible platform with a realistic publishing model. It seems like currently both of the next-gen consoles should provide an environment we can develop inside.

said Hall, in an interview with Gamereactor.

The next-gen consoles show very exciting promise. I’m hopeful that they can deliver on that. An important part of that, from my perspective, is encouraging and supporting third-party creative development to bring the “edginess” of PC creative development into the console. I think if the role of Kinect/voice expands to where it is desired it could do some awesome things.

Nothing is set in stone at this stage but watch out Undead Labs, it looks like State of Decay may have competition on the open world zombie survival front.

Are you playing the DayZ Alpha via Steam? Are you enjoying it? Do you have any funny YouTube videos to share with us? Post below in the comments and share your experiences.

Thanks Gamereactor.
