In a quarterly earnings call conference this evening, EA did not officially announce this years iteration in the massively popular racing franchise, Need for Speed with “Hot Pursuit 2” or “Most Wanted 2”
Already leaked via GAME earlier this year – well January to be more precise, Hot Pursuit 2 should be a Criterion remake of what was once an original Xbox and PC title, but will act as a sequel to the Hot Pursuit released in 2010 from Criterion Games.
The original Hot Pursuit was well received by critics at E3 2010 and was met with high critical acclaim averaging 90% on both review aggregate websites Metacritic and GameRankings, making it the highest-rated game in Need for Speed series history. It also won several Best Racing Game awards, including Best Driving Game at Spike’s 2010 Video Game Awards.
Need for Speed: Most Wanted was an Xbox 360 launch title and considered one of the best racing games of this generation of consoles. Most Wanted 2 was also leaked earlier this year from a South African retailer who listed the game alongside Dead Space 3 for pre-order.
In tonights call conference and Q&A, EA did not announce or mention either of the rumoured titles as was originally hoped (and expected) … sadly we’ll just have to wait a bit longer to find out exactly what Need for Speed game is heading to consoles this fall.
We’ll keep you updated in the coming weeks.
