Microsoft has confirmed that there will be no new Xbox console release for 2012; so if you had been hoping for a surprise E3 announcement unveiling a new console to buy this year – it’s just not going to happen! However, a specifications unveiling hasn’t been shot down just yet since it was previously rumoured that Dev’ Xbox 720 consoles are currently in development for shipping this year.
In an interview with Le Point, Xbox Marketing Manager for France, Cedrick Delmas quoted the following in regards to E3 2012:
We are in an industry where it talks a lot, it likes to tell stories. I am not convinced that things are happening this year. The cycle of the Xbox 360 is by no means complete … What is certain is that there will be nothing new in 2012. If we had to deal with Nintendo, we would have to be able to come up with something immediately, and it is not the case at all. We are not here to deal with Nintendo and they are not there to fight against other manufacturers. Nintendo has placed itself in a different cycle, they advance at their own pace, successfully as we have seen with the Wii, and now it is their turn to present their innovation.
It seems the big focus on E3 2012 this year from Microsoft is about getting more consoles connected to Xbox LIVE and further promoting new Video on Demand services. More unannounced content providers could possibly jump out of the woodwork with surprise announcements for this coming June.
If you really feel ready for a new Xbox console, sadly it looks as though we have to wait over another year before we even get to see what it looks like!
