Microsoft Gifting Xbox LIVE’s Longest Members with Free Consoles

Xbox LIVE, the online multiplayer gaming and digital content service that started life on the original Xbox is heading for its ten year anniversary. With that great news, comes a special surprise to those who have been subscribing for ten years straight – a specially designed console courtesy of the Xbox Team.

Xbox LIVE was first made available in November 2002 and was extended in 2007 for the Games for Windows platform. It is now available on Windows 8, Windows Phone’s and some features available on multiplatforms with the use of Xbox SmartGlass apps. As the only gaming service on a console that requires a subscription for multiplayer gaming, it has seen its fair share of complainers over the years… “Free Xbox LIVE” quotes which had been doing the rounds for many, many months on end.

Major Nelson confirmed the Ten Year Xbox LIVE special consoles on Twitter:

If you have been subscribing to Xbox LIVE for ten years, whilst many of us have only been subscribing since the launch of the Xbox 360 in the Fall of 2005 – expect a console soon.

It is not currently known if this applies to subscribers outside of the US?
