Remember the post a few months ago about next-gen being so immersive it will plaster your walls with images? Well today, the Microsoft Research team has unveiled what looks set to be the future of Kinect and Xbox using the Kinect Sensor and a projection device.

Microsoft states on their blog that the “system can change the appearance of the room, induce apparent motion, extend the field of view, and enable entirely new game experiences.” Using just “the appearance and the geometry of the room (captured by Kinect) to adapt the projected visuals in real-time without any need to custom pre-process the graphics.”

What you see in the videos below has been captured live and is not the result of any special effects added in post production. Listen out for “Xbox – Go Big” which seems to enable the new features, and it seems that even more information about IllumiRoom will be revealed in Paris at the ACM SIGCHI Conference from April 27th – May 2nd 2013.
