DELL Confirm All Windows 8 Apps Run on Xbox One

This news is unconfirmed from Microsoft in all official capacity, but DELL has outed that Xbox One will run all Windows 8 Apps on the console. This shouldn’t really come as any massive surprise since loyal thisisxbox readers will remember this news from February 2012, when a rumoured name for the console was Xbox 8 due to its ability to run Windows 8 features including Apps.

Looking at the image above obtained from NeoWin, close reading confirms:

Consider the game officially changed. With all your favorite Windows 8 apps able to be run on and synced to your Xbox One, now your phone, desktop, tablet and TV can all give you a unified web and entertainment experience

The Xbox One will launch on November 22nd 2013. If you have a favourite Windows 8 App that you would like to sync to the Xbox One – shout about it below.

Xbox One Exclusive Machinima App On Day One

Xbox has today announced that Machinima will launch a new app exclusively on Xbox One, in conjunction with the console’s release on November 22nd.

Machinima’s new app takes advantage of Xbox One’s exclusive “Snap” feature, giving gamers the ability to do two things at once, on the same screen. Simply say “Xbox, Snap Machinima” while playing a game and Machinima will launch on the right side of your TV screen.

One of the first things “Xbox, Snap Machinima” will do is offer curated videos from Machinima’s extensive library, based on the current game you’re playing. These videos will provide everything from game walk-throughs, game reviews, help videos and more. Additionally on offer is an enhanced Snap experience for select Xbox One titles called “Wingman”, that will provide richer, custom-created and exclusive videos to complement gameplay and offer everything from in-game help and tutorials to strategy videos.

In addition to the Snap experiences, Machinima is also launching an Xbox One SmartGlass experience on November 22, giving users a second-screen companion which allows you to keep a game full-screen on the TV while you receive a sidekick Machinima experience on your smartphone or tablet.

Exciting updates and additions to the app will be announced in advance of launch on November 22.

Windows 8 Apps Can Also Be Developed for Xbox One

Although Xbox One App development is still unclear, Microsoft at the Build developers conference in San Francisco teased that Windows 8 Apps could run on the upcoming Xbox One console.

Steve Guggenheimer, vice president of Microsoft’s Developer & Platform Evangelism group stated:

Xbox one has two engines, it’s got a gaming engine and it essentially has a Windows 8 engine … If you want to know about how to get a head start about thinking about developing for Xbox One, the logical thing to do is go build Windows 8 applications.

In addition, a new collaboration was announced with Unity Technologies, the provider of Unity multi-platform game engine and developer tools that will make it even easier for developers to bring popular games, entertainment and apps to all Microsoft platforms.

Guggenheimer also quoted:

Unity has established itself not only as an incredible development toolset and engine, but as a significant force for creative freedom and innovation in the games development community. With Unity’s commitment to support Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Xbox One and Xbox 360, Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem will benefit from the wealth of ideas and imagination flowing from the Unity games development community.

Expect a ton of weather, stocks, feed apps and social networking enhancement apps when Microsoft open the Xbox One App floodgates!

Xbox One – Words With Friends Heading For New-Gen Console

Zynga’s popular Words With Friends which is also similar to the immensely addictive Windows Phone game AlphaJax (Tag: Jason of Duty – you might have shared a few words with me already!), has been outed as an Xbox One compatible game via the Xbox 360’s very own dashboard. Basically it’s a form of Scrabble.

If you head straight to the HOME channel section, in the top right should be an “Xbox One” image which links to a specialised area detailing the new console set for launch later this year. Flicking through the different sections will bring you to the WHAT IT DOES section (*insert DRM joke here*) and the slider image clearly shows Words With Friends.

If you just want to see it for yourself then check out the image below.

I spotted it yesterday, but didn’t pay much attention, since Polygon has posted this as news – now so have we!
