Xbox @ gamescom – Games with Gold goes backwards compatible

Backwards compatibility has been at the top of Xbox One’s most wanted features for a long while now, and while it’s available to Preview Program members, the feature won’t arrive properly until November, making the Xbox One the only console to offer backwards compatibility for free!

The feature will launch with over 100 backwards compatible titles with hundreds more planned. Currently you need an original Xbox 360 disc to initiate the install, and then it’s needed as a key to allow you to play the game – not ideal really – well now, through the often laughed at Games with Gold program, all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be ones from the backwards compatibility list – eventually you’ll be able to replace those Xbox 360 discs!

Today Preview Program members will be able to grab copies of Gears of War and Shadow Complex via backward compatibility.

Top 10 wanted backwards compatible games

You were there with us I am sure, the moment we learnt for sure that backwards compatibility was coming to Xbox One this fall (unless you are a Preview member of course!). The excitement was un-measurable but when the dust settled and I had time to think, I suddenly realised I needed to get voting on which titles I wanted bringing across to Xbox One. I’ve cast my votes, have you? If you haven’t make sure you do.

So far the top 10 requested Xbox 360 games to be brought across to Xbox One via backwards compatibility are (in reverse order):

10. Mass Effect 3 with 20,043 votes

9. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare with 20,642 votes

8. Fallout 3 with 21,978 votes

7. Call of Duty: Black Ops with 22,488 votes

6. Gears of War 3 with 23,063 votes

5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with 27,710 votes

4. Halo: Reach with 28,287 votes

3. Skyrim with 32,560 votes

2. Call of Duty: Black Ops II with 32,792 votes

Out in the front with over 4000 votes more than CoD: Black Ops II is of course the one and only Red Dead Redemption with over 36,000 votes.

Red Dead Redemption 2 was a title many were hoping was to be announced at E3. It looks like we may need to wait until either Gamescom later in the summer or a separate studio/publisher announcement later in the year.

Let us know which Xbox 360 title you are most excited to play on Xbox One.
