First 104 backwards compatible 360 titles officially revealed

xboxocontroller

It’s been a little while since Microsoft announced that they’d cracked backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games on the Xbox One. In truth, I remember saying at the time of the One’s release that it shouldn’t be that difficult to run an emulator inside the One’s OS to be able to play your favourites from the previous console generation.

The November console update that introduces this is due to start hitting machines from the 12th of the month for the majority of Xbox One owners. With this in mind Microsoft have officially announced via Mike Ybarra on Xbox Wire, the first 104 games to get the backwards compatible treatment.

The notable big-hitters in this list are arguably Assassin’s Creed 2, Borderlands, Fable 2, Fallout 3, Mass Effect and Mirror’s Edge.

For those wondering how it will work, it’s quite simple. If you had purchased a digital version of one of the games below, it will appear in your “Ready to Install” list. If you own the game disc itself, well, it’s the same as the current One titles. You load the disc in the console and it installs to the HDD. You’ll still need the game disc in the drive to play though.

Additionally, all future Games With Gold Xbox 360 titles will be available on this programme too, so One owners will get double the value from their Gold account.

You can find more information here as well as a comprehensive list of the games already available and those that will be coming to the programme soon, like the Bioshock series and Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Microsoft have even provided us with a handy trailer for the feature, with the ever-ready Larry Hryb.

Borderlands gets backwards compatibility

Borderlands is getting Xbox One Backward Compatibility support when it launches publicly this November but is now available as part of the Preview Program.

If you own Borderlands, you’ll be able to play it on your Xbox One and you can carry over your previously-saved files, game add-ons and achievements.

2K President Christoph Hartman said:

We are proud to support Xbox One Backward Compatibility by bringing the complete, original Borderlands to Xbox One, including all downloadable content. We know many of our fans have put in dozens, even hundreds, of hours exploring the world of Pandora on their Xbox 360, and now they can continue their adventures on Xbox One”

Lets go vault hunting!
