Golden Axe Reborn – The SEGA Game That Never Made It To XBLA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr5J3s4GTBQ

It probably all started with the 2.5D Sonic the Hedgehog success (or not), and although the latest classic SEGA game heading for the Xbox LIVE Arcade is Mickey Mouse in the great MegaDrive hit Castle of Illusion in the next week or so. It has been discovered that other games on SEGA Australia’s hit list for a current gen scrub up was Golden Axe, Shinobi and Streets of Rage – but their story was to be tied into the same universe under a SEGA Reborn studio.

The Unity pitch trailer for the Golden Axe game that never was is shown above – and the whole idea for the three titles to link together set in the same universe will never happen. We love sharing the good news, at least you get to save a few quid on games you might have just bought for nostalgic reasons.

Move along…

Castle of Illusion – Behind the Scenes Trailer

I am very excited about the re-imagining of Castle of Illusion, a game I played heavily on both the SEGA Master System and MegaDrive in the early 90’s – so the idea of playing an old favourite seems exciting. In this new video released today, SEGA take you “behind the scenes” of the new adventure set to hit the Xbox LIVE Arcade this summer.

We’ve reached out for a review code, we’ll share the excitement in due course.

You may remember at the start of March we announced that SEGA’s Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse was outed by a Brazilian ratings board.  Well now SEGA and Disney Interactive have finally come out with the official announcement for the old Megadrive Classic Continue reading SEGA Announce Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse HD Remake

SEGA’s Castle of Illusion Coming to XBLA

The good ol’ eagle-eyed folks at NeoGaf have spotted that SEGA’s hit Mickey Mouse game of the early 90’s, Castle of Illusion has been rated for all current-gen platforms on a Brazilian Ratings Board.

This suggests that the latest rating is a confirmation that SEGA plan to re-release a new collection of games from the Master System or Mega Drive (Genesis) era. I’m actually hoping it is the Master System version of Castle of Illusion as it was by far the most enjoyable over the Mega Drive version. SEGA has not confirmed anything as of yet, but expect more details in the coming weeks.

Here’s a reminder of the Master System version released in 1990.
