Team17 have been around a while, since 1990 in fact. They are the UK’s leading Indie label behind such enduring greats as the Worms series. I remember when they first hit the scene and they’ve been mainstays ever since. Today, Team17 have announced they are to publish Steamroller Studios’ Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse on Xbox One, after a successful Kickstarter campaign for a Steam release.
This action adventure game pits Lathe, a teenage woodling and an avid inventor against a horde of wooden zombies in a fight to prevent the entire land of Knottington being overrun with the woody undead. Also along for the journey is Roguard, a stone giant tasked with protecting you by day, leaving you free to roam Knottington looking for resources to scavenge and to craft weapons with to defend yourself when the night comes. This is when Roguard falls asleep, leaving you at the mercy of the walking wooded and having to defend your stone friend.
It’s almost like Zelda meets State of Decay.
Keith Lackey, Technical Supervisor at Steamroller, had this to say about the announcement,
Everyone here at Steamroller Studios is super excited to be partnering with Team17. We’ve been huge fans of them since the beginning, and so when we found out the feeling was mutual, we jumped at the chance to work with them. With their experience and support we’ll be free to do what we do best, which is to make an awesome game.”
Deadwood: The Forgotten Curse represents the first U.S. Indie to be added to Team17’s portfolio of games.
While there’s no word on a release date as yet, here’s the teaser trailer, to give you an idea what the game mechanics are all about.
