DMC: Definitive Edition releases today

Today marks the return on Dante as Capcom’s 2013 release of DMC gets a next-gen make over which sees it remastered to run at 1080p and at 60fps on the Xbox One.

Not only does it get a nice make over, DMC: Definitive Edition comes with all previously released content including ‘Vergil’s Downfall’, and a brand new ‘Vergils Bloody Palace Mode’, where you’re able to play as Dante’s brother, Vergil, which Capcom say was requested a lot by fans for the games original release. There are also a whole host of improvements made to the combat, as well as new game modes such as Turbo Mode – an improvement to combat power and ups the game speed by 20%, and Hardcore Mode – A throwback to previous DMC games.

Halim got his hands on DMC back in 2013, check out what he thought in this review.

DMC: Definitive Edition is available from retailers or from the Xbox One marketplace now. Though, you may find it cheaper to get it from an online retailer than opting for the digital release.

Devil May Cry gets an Xbox One overhaul

Capcom have unveiled their plans for Devil May Cry’s entry onto Xbox One with a Definitive Edition of DmC and a Special Edition of Devil May Cry 4.

DmC will be released in March alongside all of its previously released DLC and run in glorious 1080p at 60fps. The Definitive Edition will also allow you to play through the “Bloody Palace” DLC as Vergil and take a crack at the game with three new modes that will surely test your mettle – Gods Must die, Must Style and Hardcore.

But wait, there’s more… new costumes inspired by the original Devil May Cry character designs are included for both Dante and Vergil. If you’ve always felt DmC’s combat was on the slow side then you’re in luck. Must go faster mode whacks the game speed up by 20% – can you hack the pace!

Devil May Cry 4 will be making its redux jump in the Summer of 2015 and at a guess it will also receive gameplay tweaks and include all of the previously released DLC.

Devil May Cry Ultimate Edition for Xbox One?

dmc ultimate xbox one

Unless all the vodka has played a part in this, (bad joke) Russian videogame retailer Videoigr.net has listed online for pre-order the Ultimate Edition of Ninja Theory’s Devil May Cry reboot that was originally released on Xbox 360.

The listing details Xbox One and PS4 versions going on sale from December 16th 2014. No other specifics were mentioned, but if true – then this is likely to be an enhanced buffed up and beefed out version of the original for next-gen platforms looking all shiny with new lighting and to the brim with DLC.

DMC is also not the only game probably outed on Videoigr as another Capcom hit Resident Evil Revelations could be inline for a next-gen sequel since Resident Evil Revelations 2 (yes two) was placed for pre-order on both Xbox One and PS4 also.

It is believed that site has been accurate with leaking titles prior to announcements and although the above two games seem likely (and plausible) this is regarded as merely a rumour until official announcements come in from Capcom.

Devil May Cry: The Chronicles of Vergil From Titan Comics

Devil May Cry: The Chronicles of Vergil is a recent hardback comic published by Titan Comics from the work of writer IZU and artist PION, together they have created a graphically detailed insight to a prequel of events in the lead up to the reboot of the videogame from Capcom. We’re no stranger to receiving the odd hardback from Titan Books / Titan Comics and everything published is exceptionally displayed and illustrated to a fantastic quality. IZU has written other Capcom story origin comics such as revisiting Lost Planet in Lost Planet: First Colony.

The Chronicles of Vergil is in short – really quite short for the large scale story it is trying to portray at just 46 pages. It’s also quite muddled jumping the reader into different time periods in such short spaces, by the first four pages alone you have jumped ahead by a year and back again. It portrays the visions that Dante see’s and how the world is controlled by Demons;  also how his twin brother Vergil and human psychic Kat take off on a rescue journey to save Dante who is imprisoned in Hellfire.

DmC: The Chronicles of Vergil is a solid story from IZU and will be a great for fans of the game to read how Dante, the games’ protagonist is leading up to a final showdown with the guards of Hellfire – however if you’re not really “into” the Devil May Cry series then you wouldn’t really have a purpose for buying this as the story would just confuse you!

What I will say about Devil May Cry: The Chronicles of Vergil, is that the fantasy style artwork is perfectly illustrating the story, and it’s a shame the comic isn’t longer as I felt the writing to be inconsistent and a little poor in leading the reader to conclusions. There are a few unanswered questions and a really baffling ending that led me to wonder if it was a deliberate attempt to encourage you to buy Volume 2 to piece all the information together – if that too actually makes any sense! It is a really cheap hardback though and would make a great gift for any Devil May Cry fan, but since the comic is only really aimed at the fans I wouldn’t recommend buying it for just anyone, it would be too confusing as you would need to have played the game to make sense of some of the inconsistencies with the written story.
