Finally! Well that’s what I thought when Microsoft announced the release of Crackdown to the Backwards Compatibilty program on the Xbox One X. In fact, only last week I was wondering why it wasn’t already there and assumed it would be linked to the release of Crackdown 3, in a pre-order bonus kind of way. Does the fact that the release of this now mean that Crackdown 3 is delayed again, or that news is imminent and this release is being used to get gamers all excited about the franchise again?
And it’s not just Crackdown that is coming to the Backwards Compatibility program. Also now available are Fable Anniversary, Forza Horizon and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.
A new feature has also been added which allows greater control over the graphical settings of the 360 games on the X. When you play Enhanced Xbox 360 games on Xbox One X, you can now choose how to experience them—with enhanced graphics or in their original form. Enhanced graphics will be turned on by default, running your game with higher resolution, 9X the pixel count, increased texture details and antialiasing, allowing you to enjoy greater visual clarity than ever before. If you turn off the Graphics setting, the graphics will be comparable to the experience on Xbox One or Xbox One S.
This new setting can be found on the old 360 guide, opened by pressing the “View” and “Menu” buttons together on your controller.
Rejoice Fable fans! Fable Anniversary and Fable Pub Games are finally available on the Xbox One Backwards Compatibility program.
Fable was originally released on the original Xbox back in 2004, before being given the Anniversary update on the 360 in 2014. Does this make it the first Original Xbox game to be available on the One?
Fable Anniversary – As the best-selling RPG on the original Xbox, Fable pioneered every player’s choice having a consequence. With Fable Anniversary, a spectacular HD remaster of the original Fable, players will be reminded of why the franchise is so special and unique. All new textures and 3D models, an entirely new lighting system, a slick new interface, achievements, and all of the content from “The Lost Chapters,” make Fable Anniversary the definitive Fable experience for faithful fans and new players alike!
Fable 2 Pub Games – An Xbox Live Arcade title that includes three pub game-styled minigames called Keystone, Fortune’s Tower and Spinnerbox, developed by Carbonated Games under the supervision of Lionhead Studios. The games are included in both editions of Fable II.
Fable Anniversary was released on Xbox 360 yesterday, and sadly a good few players have been experiencing stability issues with the game already. Players have been reporting on social media and on the official Lionhead forums of console lock ups and freezing and Lionhead have responded quickly by asking those experiencing problems to fill out their Bug Report form to submit any issues they are having so they can quickly work on a title update to help resolve them.
Lionhead Community Manager @LHhohbes has posted the following on their forums to acknowledge the issues:
Hello Chicken Chasers!
First of all – thanks very much to everyone who’s reported bugs so far in the Bug Reporting Template thread. The info you’ve provided has been hugely helpful for the team as they investigate.
Our number one priority at the moment is to make sure the stability issues you are experiencing are fixed. We’ve been working hard over the past few days to track down and identify the issues which cause your games to freeze/lock up (we know how annoying that is).
We’ve identified some potential stability issues that may be the cause of your lockups/freezes, and there will be another title update to patch the game and hopefully fix those. Of course, the process of creating a title update isn’t instantaneous and we want to be very careful not to cause any further issues by rolling out such an update, therefore thorough testing is necessary before push anything out publicly. There’s no current ETA on when this title update will be available, however I will endeavour to get updates for you as regularly as possible in this thread, and as soon as I can give a time frame I will be sure to let you know.
The focus currently is on fixing stability issues – but rest assured we are keeping a close eye on all other reported issues and we’ll aim to fix as many of those as we can too.
Once again thanks so much for all your input/feedback – it’s genuinely incredible to see so many sensible, level headed people here on the forums.
Whilst there has been no date or ETA on a title update to resolve the issues being experienced, Lionhead have acknowledged them and looking to path the game ASAP with the help of players submitting bug reporting, so I suggest that if you are experiencing any issues with Fable: Anniversary, to go to the forums and submit a bug report form and help other players and Lionhead resolve the issues quickly.
It looks as though Microsoft and Lionhead Studios will be celebrating the launch of the upcoming Fable Anniversary game on the 7th February by coinciding a trilogy bundle over Xbox LIVE. This bundle includes full Xbox 360 titles for Fable Anniversary, Fable II and Fable III. The bundle pack offers these games together at a discounted rate over individual purchases.
The games in this bundle are available as individual downloads in the Xbox Games marketplace and are exactly the same. Be aware that it is possible to download the same game twice. If you already own one of these games there is no additional discount on this bundle, nor do you receive an additional copy of the game you already own.
Lionhead has announced that Fable Anniversary has gone GOLD! – and that actual physical copies of the game are being shipped to retailers in time for the launch on February 7th 2014. If the launch itself isn’t enough to get you all tingly, it was also announced that by ordering from selected retailers you’ll also be able to get your hands on one of the following packs:
Peiratēs Pre Order Pack
Peiratēs Outfit – Peiratēs was a famous plunderer, known for travelling uncharted waters to take entire cargo ships hostage for their most expensive items. He was also known by the name “Pete” in less formal circles.
Peiratēs Cutlass – A weapon used at sea needs to be both practical and effective. Peiratēs spent years refining this weapon so that the hook could be used to catch fish, the tip could be used to eat fish, and the blade could be used to slit a man’s throat.
Snowspire Pre Order Pack
Snowspire Guard Outfit – Made from genuine horse hair, this outfit is said to calm even the most vocal of criminals.
The Jackarse – An age-old popular pasttime was run by a chap named Jack, who used to slap people around the face with a dead fish until they fell onto their arse. The rest, as they say, is history…
Apollo’s Pre Order Pack
Apollo’s Outfit – Apollo is the pseudonym for the leader of The Grey Company, the man responsible for monitoring Lady Grey’s financial investments. As fearsome as that may sound, he had a reputation for being incredibly nice, often using his own money to bail out any villager that couldn’t afford that months rent.
Apollo’s Crossbow – Based on a centuries old concept, Apollo wanted to create a modern crossbow with the feel of a relic from the past – and thus this crossbow was born. Dependable in combat, but also pretty tasty to look at.
For the collectors among you, don’t panic, these items will be available for purchase on the Xbox Game Store later in the year if you are unable to find what you want from your favourite retailer.
Lionhead Studios have finally announced the official release date for Fable Anniversary as February 7th in the UK and Europe, 4th for US and 6th for Asia regions. They have also announced the exclusive day one edition of the game which will come with extra content for those picking it up on release.
Contained within each limited-run box you’ll find a 5×5 code for the Launch Day Outfits & Weapons Pack which will all be packaged up in a shiny, slip-on embossed case. Ooooo! We thought to ourselves; what famous Fable characters would our fans like to dress up as on day one? The answer was simple… for the first time ever, your Hero can now dress up as Scythe!
The full pack contains:
Black Graduate Outfit
Red Prophet Outfit
Blue Guard Outfit
Red Guard Outfit
Will User’s Sceptre Weapon
The Day One Edition will also come with an exclusive avatar award to celebrate the 10th Anniversary, a Lionhead avatar ‘helmet’. Lionhead Studio advise fans that have yet to pre-order Fable Anniversary to do so quickly as the Day One Edition will only be on the first batch of games produced for sale.
Speaking on the Lionhead Blog, Ted Timmins, Lead Designer for Fable Anniversary says:
“We’ve been working hard for the past year to bring you the very best Fable Anniversary experience on Xbox 360,” lead designer Ted Timmins explained on the Lionhead blog. “We feel though, that we need a little more time in order to meet our ambitions and give you, the fans, the best game possible.
“I know I speak for everyone at Lionhead when I say that we can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been up to, and it gives us great pleasure to let you know that you can expect Fable Anniversary to be both on-shelves and online via the Xbox Games Store in February 2014”
It should be pointed out that a release date was never given for the game, but fans have eagerly been awaiting this title so this announced delay will come as a blow to all Chicken Chasers. This trailer will have to keep fans going till next year.
Lionhead Studios have put their Lion Heads together (see what we done there, Ok you’re ignoring it) to come up with a funky competition that will allow YOU, yes YOU if you are chosen to design an Achievement for their upcoming Fable Anniversary when it is released later this year.
We’ll be handing the creative baton to our community by asking YOU to dream up the most creative, challenging, fun and unique achievements possible. Once we’ve got your ideas, we’ll sit down and shortlist our favourite 5 and, once again, hand the wand of decision making (previously known as the creative baton) back to you by asking you to vote for your favourite achievement.
Not only will the achievement voted by the community be included in Fable Anniversary, but the author’s name will also be placed in the games credits. The winner will also be given a free copy of Fable Anniversary when it becomes available, and all 5 finalists will each receive a Fable Anniversary T-shirt (by Insert Coin Clothing) and a batch of E3 badges.
