New Fallout 4 content coming this year

Many eager Wastelanders were waiting with baited breath for any updates on their beloved Fallout 4, and they were not disappointed.

Bethesda announced three new DLCs coming to Fallout 4, this year, which includes two new workshop DLCs, and what appears to be a new story DLC, set in a brand new location.

First they teased the new Contraptions DLC, which is due next week, which allows players to build incredible machines to either aid you in your settlements, or to just entertain you. Wastelanders will be able to create elevators, conveyor belts, armour and weapon racks, use new track kits to create Rube Goldberg-esque machines, and much much more.

The second of the new workshop DLCs allows players to create their own vaults, to their own standards. After clearing the area of any nasty creatures, you will be able to lay down your perfect vault, from wall placements, to stairwells, everything is yours to control. Once your vault is secure, dwellers will start to appear, and help you to keep it safe, or be used for experimentation. This will be available to download from July 2016.

Lastly, a brief tease was shown for what looks like could be a brand new story DLC, based in a new location Nuka World. Not much was shown, except a 1950s style theme park, full of the waifs and strays of the Wasteland, enjoying some quality time with friends and family. Of course, anything this tranquil can last…

Bethesda also announced some new updates coming to their incredibly popular mobile game, Fallout Shelter. Boasting a current total of over 50 million downloads, the new updates promise to bring more exciting adventures to your pocket. Players will be able to send dwellers out on quests, visit brand new locations, and battle new enemies. They are also introducing a brand new combat system, as well as a host of new characters to meet. For those of you who prefer to manage your dwellers on a bigger screen, Fallout Shelter will also be coming to PC in July 2016.

Oh, and one last thing…

For the ultimate and most immersive experience, Bethesda have announced that they will be bringing Fallout 4 to the HTC Vive virtual reality headset in 2017.

Fallout 4 mods arrive this Tuesday

How do you fancy having access to 667 Fallout 4 mods this Tuesday? Done

This Tuesday, May 31st will see Xbox Fallout 4 players will finally be able to mod their way through the game. Bethesda went through of the mods and explained how things would work during a Livestream earlier this week.

The Xbox One mods will initially be limited to 2GB, but this may increase over time, also implementing a mod will make it so all of your future save files will be sequestered to a section of saves specific for modded games. Don’t expect to unlock achievements either, as they will be disabled while you mod.

What are you most looking forward to doing with your copy of Fallout?

Fallout 4: Far Harbor review

Teeming with new monsters, quests, NPCs and loot, with an offering of 15 hours or more of adventuring, Far Harbor is indeed the expansion Fallout 4 fans have been waiting for. Better yet it’s also fantastic.

With a radio signal informing you of a new case at Valentine’s Detective Agency, you’re soon heading to the North West coast to jump on a boat and journey to a mysterious island drenched in an eerie, radioactive fog. What starts off as an investigation into a missing person soon develops into a fascinating set of mysteries about the island’s denizens, the fog, and the huge mutated creatures that call it home.

Three faction live on the island and soon seek your aid, conversion, or destruction: The Children of Atom, a colony of escaped synths, and the human settlers. It doesn’t take long for you to find yourself in the middle of them, with choices of brokering peaceful existence, annihilation, or something in-between.

Far Harbor 3

The options available to you are even broader here than during the main game, allowing you a great deal of flexibility on how you deal with the three factions. Meanwhile, dialogue has seen a significant improvement, helping to develop the characters into people and synths that you can care about and truly get to know. This also makes your decisions more meaningful and interesting, encouraging you to create a few extra saves in order to see the multiple outcomes.

The new fog effects, meanwhile, adds a fantastic sense of atmosphere to the island that makes it feel and look very different to the mainland. Moreover, the fog helps conceal enemies, making your adventuring more treacherous and far scarier. Having a bandit jump out from nowhere is enough to send you several feet up from your couch, but having a ghoul of super mutant do it can send you into orbit. However, it’s the new creatures that will really get you flying.

Far Harbor 1

Giant frogs, praying mantises, crabs and other sea creatures, all plague the residents of this island, and they are truly a sight to see. Hermit crabs using trucks as shells, and praying mantises that can give a deathclaw a run for their money. These are wonderfully unique, intimidating, and powerful creatures for you engage that test your skills thoroughly.

The Far Harbor story alone can take a good 15 hours to complete, however, there’s plenty of island to explore and get caught up in your own adventures. The terrain is also very different from that of the mainland, with a more rugged feel and a terrifyingly eerie mountain path to ascend.

Far Harbor 2

New equipment is also strewn across the island for you to find and use, including nautically themed weapons to add to your collection. Unfortunately the new companion is a bit of a let-down; he can help guide you around the island but his fisherman backstory doesn’t yield much interest. However, some new puzzles you come across during the expansion’s story are a welcome break from the norm.

Far Harbor’s new and fascinating setting, menacing monsters, more in-depth characters, and well-paced story, all make for a superb expansion. The eerier atmosphere is a welcome change that helps make the new location feel very different to what we’ve encountered before, and the abundance of content finally delivers the expansion we’ve been craving. You’re not going to want to miss this boat.

Thanks to Xbox and Bethesda for supporting TiX

New Fallout DLC arrives tomorrow

The latest Fallout 4 expansion arrives tomorrow. Far Harbor features the largest landmass for an add-on that Bethesda Game Studios has ever created, filled with new faction quests, settlements, lethal creatures and dungeons.

The new DLC will see you take on a case from Valentine’s Detective Agency that leads you on a search for a young woman and a secret colony of synths. Travel off the coast of Maine to the mysterious island of Far Harbor, where higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world. Navigate through the growing conflict between the synths, the Children of Atom, and the local townspeople. Will you work towards bringing peace to Far Harbor, and at what cost?

Season Pass owners will of course get the DLC for free while the rest of us will have to get out bottle caps out.
