Far Cry 5: Lost on Mars releases on July 17th

Ubisoft have announced that Far Cry 5: Lost on Mars, the second post-launch adventure, will release on July 17th 2018 on available platforms. Lost on Mars continues the uncanny adventures in the Far Cry 5 Season Pass as players travel to Mars to eradicate an alien threat. Lost on Mars can be purchased as a stand-alone DLC, as part of the season pass or the Gold Edition. Check out our review of Far Cry 5 here!

Lost on Mars transports the franchise’s insanity from Hope County to the red planet as Nick Rye is teleported to a hostile planet to help his buddy Hurk thwart an alien invasion of Earth. This adventure gives players a new arsenal of alien weaponry, including the Blaster of Disaster, Hellfire and Morphinator, while also introducing a new transversal tool with Space Jets. Humankind’s future is in the hands of the game’s most notorious guns-for-hire. Time to squash some bugs!

In addition, all Far Cry 5 players will have access to new Mars-themed assets in Far Cry Arcade, which is available now. Map builders will be able to integrate these assets into their existing maps or create new sci-fi-themed maps. Future content will also include thematic assets that will be added to Far Cry Arcade for free. Those who download the Lost on Mars DLC will also gain access to new weapons – Obliteratorrrr, Taser Phazer Annihilazer, Nerve Reaper, Grape Popper and Hellfire – to use as they liberate Hope County from the Project at Eden’s Gate.

Far Cry 5 post-launch will continue with a final DLC adventure – Dead Living Zombies – which will be released in August. An additional asset drop will give map builders more tools to create unique Far Cry Arcade experiences. The adventures are available in the season pass or as stand-alone DLC purchases, while new asset releases for Far Cry Arcade will be available for free to all players in future title updates.

Far Cry 5 new Story Trailer released with details of Season Pass

The latest in the Far Cry series releases on the 27th March 2018 on Xbox and PS4, and Ubisoft have released a new story trailer. They have also released details of what we can expect in the obligatory season pass and future DLC. More details of that after the new trailer!

It’s fair to say that Ubisoft are taking a different direction with the first three pieces of DLC, with the first “Dead Living Zombies” appearing to be a horde-like mode where you fight “hordes of the undead” in a “zombie-infested wasteland.” The second piece, “Hours of Darkness” takes players to Vietnam, where they will do battle against the Viet Cong. Finally, Lost on Mars kits you out in a spacesuit and drops them onto the red planet to fight against giant spiders. The season pass also comes with an updated version of Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition will allow players to revisit Rook Island and encounter major sicko Vaas and his cronies. Players are tasked with exploring the island to find and save their friends, who are being held captive by Vaas

Mondo Limited Edition announced for Far Cry 5

If you like vinyls – I’m looking at you Rob Mafia – and you love Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, then you best sit up and take note because the Far Cry 5 x Mondo edition includes a vinyl copy of the soundtrack and also features some sweet artwork on the cover that also adorns the SteelBook. This isn’t just any old art either, it’s been designed by Jay Shaw, Creative Director of Mondo. The edition itself is limited to 4,000 copies worldwide

Mondo are a collection of artists who take movie poster art and chisel it into their own unique style.

“Over the years, we have done pretty much everything related with film collectibles and this collaboration represents the next step: with gaming you’re lot more open, to interpret. It’s a bigger story,” said Jay Shaw, Creative Director of Mondo. “We are very happy to collaborate with an extraordinarily creative company like Ubisoft!”

The edition also includes a digital code to download the Doomsday Prepper Pack and the Chaos Pack, plus a digital copy of the vinyl tracks so you can listen to the sounds of FC5 wherever you go.

Dan Romer scores with Far Cry 5

The musical score of a video game is as powerful as the action that unfolds on screen and Ubisoft have shown their appreciation and understanding of this by selecting Dan Romer as the composer for their upcoming Montana romp – Far Cry 5.

The award-winning music producer, songwriter and film composer has a whole host of accolades under his belt – including topping the music charts and being nominated four times for an Oscar – stepping into the digital world of games will see him take on a very different challenge that will place him at the centre of the game’s musical score, including the production of original hymns for the violent cult that is depicted at the centre of Far Cry 5.

Best of luck Dan, we look forward to hearing what you can bring to the awesome medium of video games.

TiX @ EGX – Day 3 Review

Before we start on the final day of my adventures at EGX, I want to just cover off the final two hours of Day Two. The crowds seemed to dissipate at around 4pm, and all of a sudden the queues were becoming barren. I took this opportunity to jump onto Star Wars Battlefront 2. The booth had 40 screens with a 20 v 20 battle going on. Set on Naboo, it saw a rebel troop ship heading towards the palace which had to be stopped. Four different classes of Stormtroopers were available to pick and when enough points were earned, the option opened up to pick a special character or to take to the skies in a fighter.

It certainly felt like a huge improvement over it’s predecessor but was also very reminiscent of Battlefield 1 albeit with a Star Wars skin. Our match also saw Han Solo facing off against Darth Maul, which you won’t see happen in many places!

Then, as I was about to leave the show I noticed that the queue for Far Cry 5 was non-existent, so I quickly jumped into it! Now, I have never really been a huge Far Cry fan so it’s difficult to compare, but in the 15 minute demo I was shooting bad guys, giving orders to my attack dog and flying a seaplane in order to drop bombs on silos. If the rest of the game is as diverse and interesting as this snippet then it looks like it will be well received. Oh, and the dude implanted in the queue with the scary eyes was a genius move! That’s him in the picture below on the right.

So, onto the final day and I felt like I had already played what I wanted to play, but there were still a few surprises in-store. First up was a quick game of Destiny 2 crucible, just because I was having withdrawal symptoms! A nice free T-Shirt was earned before moving on to South Park: The Fractured But Whole.

In all my years at EGX I don’t think I have played a demo quite like this. I can’t go into too many details but it was set in a Gentleman’s Club and involved dancing and breaking wind in a minigame. It was highly inappropriate but also extremely funny! I hadn’t played a lot of the first game as I am not a huge fan of turn-based combat, but the humour in here may make it something I can overlook.

I then spent the afternoon watching three of the developer sessions in the EGX theatre, first up was Shadow Of War, with Bob Roberts from developer Monolith taking to the stage to talk through the improved Nemesis system and Ellie from Monolith showing us how good she is at playing it! As you can see from the video it was all quite “Tasty”

Then up was a panel from Rebellion studios of their upcoming game Strange Brigade. This was my surprise game of the show. I knew nothing about it before this weekend, and as you will see from the video it is a “boys-own” inspired co-op shooter, set in the 1950’s ish era. Unfortunately time ran out so I was unable to play it myself, but this does look and feel really special!

And then finally, the moment everyone was waiting for. Bungie. The queue for this 3pm panel started about 2 hours previous! The four guys from the Destiny 2 developer discussed how they designed the new locations within the game, and also took many questions from members of the audience. The theatre was packed full to get a chance to see the guys from Bungie and it was a great end to the show from me!

So, that was it for me, apart from purchasing the obligatory swag before heading home. It was, as usual, a fun but tiring 3 days, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and am already looking forward to 2018!

Ubisoft unveil their EGX line-up

Ubisoft have unveiled what they have in store for EGX attendees, which is being held at Birmingham’s NEC between 21-24 September.

As you would expect, Assassin’s Creed Origins will be at the show and available to play on Xbox One and PC. Far Cry 5 and South Park: The Fractured but Whole will also be playable, but the platform hasn’t been confirmed although if I was a gambling man I would place my money on PS4 for Far Cry 5. Naturally, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will be demoed on Nintendo Switch while an enormous Rabbid Kong statue looks over those wanting to bag the odd selfie or two.

Rainbow Six Siege makes a return to the NEC with ESL on September 22 for the semi-finals and final of the Rainbow Six UK Invitational where there is a prize pool of £4,250 up for grabs. Ubisoft are also sponsoring Saturday’s EGX Cosplay Championship, which includes a special Assassin’s Creed category.

Additionally the Ubisoft stand will be dishing out plenty of swag and prizes for various competitions that will be run throughout the event.

Ubisoft announce Far Cry 5 release date

Ubisoft have announced that Far Cry 5 will be released on February 27 2018. Far Cry 5 is set in America for the first time, in Montana. You will have total freedom to navigate a serene-looking yet deeply twisted world on your own or in two-player co-op. Development for Far Cry 5 is being led by Ubisoft Montreal.

Here is a bit of Blurb about the game:

As the new junior deputy of fictional Hope County, Montana, players will find that their arrival accelerates a years-long silent coup by a fanatical doomsday cult, the Project at Eden’s Gate, igniting a violent takeover of the county. Caught off guard and drawn into a power struggle, players must disrupt the carefully laid plans of the Project at Eden’s Gate, and fan the fires of resistance to help liberate the Hope County community and themselves.
