Lifting the hood on the next Need for Speed update

Tomorrow sees the release of the next Need for Speed update and with it comes a whole host of new challenges and changes. The main change is the introduction of the SpeedLists feature.

This new feature allows you to compete against other human opponents in a series of five pre-selected events. Simply select the new SpeedList tile from the main menu, choose from Quick Play, Speed, Style or Mixed, to use the new events.

At the end of each event you’ll gain points depending on where you finished. Once all events are completed the final standings are calculated and the best racers shown off in a short cinematic sequence.

Prestige Mode

Once you have completed the main story you will get a call from an old friend unlocking Prestige Mode. Along with this comes a new App for your phone and this will allow you to try the original five modes of the game, Speed, Style, Build, Crew and Outlaw in Hard Mode. Are you ready for the challenge and to prove you are the Ultimate Icon?

Two new types of Activity are coming to the game in the form of Drift Corners and Speed Runs.

Approach a Drift Corner and send your car sideways to rack up the points, or go full throttle through one of the Speed Runs. Keep your run clean and leave your mark on the Speedwall – with bragging rights at stake you’ll want to make sure you’re coming out on top.

Achievements & Trophies

Three new achievements and trophies are waiting for you to unlock and collect.

  • Basic Bronze: Win all the Prestige events
  • Gold Plated: Win Gold on all Prestige events
  • Speed Master: Win all the events in a SpeedList

Daily Challenges

Daily Challenges have been altered, so with each Daily Challenge you complete you will receive one of the 150 decals on offer. This has changed as before you were required to complete all three of the challenges to receive the decal.

Once again I’m impressed with Ghost and EA, and how they are really focusing on the Community and content of this game. Personally I’m looking forward to this update and climbing the Player Title Ranks. Feel free to send me a request and I hope to see you on the streets of Ventura Bay.

Lifting the hood on next Need for Speed update

So the momentum keeps going and next Wednesday, February 3rd, Need for Speed gets its next anticipated update appropriately named Showcase. So what treats do the guys have in store for us:

Snapshot Pro
Building an awesome ride is only part of the fun, the other is showcasing it for the world to see and now this can now be done with Snapshot Pro, a mode which will allow you to create some stunning photos of your favourite car.

Hit start to get to phone screen, then select Snapshot Pro from the phone menu. You’ll then be able to manoeuvre the camera around the car, apply a number of custom settings such as depth of field, brightness, contrast, vignette, saturation and more. You’ll also be able to apply a number of pre-set filters, allowing you to achieve great results in a very short amount of time.

Wrap Sharing
How you car looks is just as important as how you race and from experience in Forza and other games custom wraps and vinyls are king. Therefore its great news to see that Wrap Sharing is now included.

Wrap Sharing has been one of the most requested features to date and because of this it has now become a new option within the Paint and Wrap section that will allow you to browse and download wraps shared by other players. If you’re a wrap creator then simply mark your creation as shareable and it’ll show up for everyone else.

Downloading and applying a community made wrap is as easy as heading into the community wrap section in the ‘Paint and Wrap’ section, finding one that you like and hitting the download button. Once downloaded you’ll then be able to apply it to your ride and even edit and tweak it should you wish.

Customization Items
Customization continues to be a really talked about subject and because of this another 100+ new customization items will be available in this update.

In total, eleven new cars will be getting new parts:

  • Ford Focus RS
  • Chevrolet Camaro Z28
  • BMW M3 E92
  • Ford Mustang Boss 302
  • Ford Mustang Foxbody
  • Ford Mustang GT
  • Mazda MX5 (2015)
  • NISSAN 180sx Type X
  • NISSAN Silvia Spec-R
  • SUBARU BRZ Premium
  • SUBARU Impreza WRX

Want to test your skills against other people? Try the new “Competitive” option at the front menu which will see you placed in a game with other players who are also looking to race competitively. Or, select “Alldrive” and you can experience Need for Speed as it is now.

License Plates
You’ll now have the option to customize the license plate on your car, giving you even more options to personalize your ride.

You’ll be able to choose from a selection of backgrounds from past NFS games including; Redview, Fairhaven, Palmont City, Rockport, Olympic City, Bayview and Tri City Bay. Alongside the backgrounds you’ll also be able to apply a number of frames to complete the look.

Gas Stations
Players of earlier NFS games will be familiar with the gas stations and their ability to repair your car. Something thats been requested by the NFS community, is that you wanted this functionality brought back. You missed the option of having your car look new again, instead of having to wear the scars of racing until you ventured back to the garage.

As such, all gas stations in Ventura Bay will now repair your car, free of charge. Simply drive your car through the station and it’ll be looking as good as new. And to help you out further, all gas stations will become points of interest on the map.

New Trophies and Achievements
Three new trophies and achievements will be added to the game, go out and earn them all:

  • Filter Addict – Take a Snapshot with a Filter in Snapshot Pro Mode
  • Wrap Artist – Share a Wrap with the Need for Speed Community
  • Climbing the Ranks – Reach Monthly Rank 10 by completing Daily Challenges

Call of Duty: Ghosts – Rumoured Again – YES Again!

The Call of Duty Ghost game rumour has been doing the rounds for more time than you might actually care to realise. We were first told of this news waaaaaaaay back in the early days of 2011 when we were informed (reliably) that Sledgehammer Games were working on a title that would bring back ‘Ghost’ from the dead. Our website CMS has changed within that time and we can only link you to proof through 1UP

The game at that time would be based on events surrounding the Ghost squad Task Force 141 inbetween the events of the original Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity ward. We were also told that flashback sequences would be present to see the Modern Warfare story from a whole different point of view – led by Ghost – the character from Modern Warfare 2 who sadly died, such a loss… or did he? Careful watching of that moment you will spot that you are led to believe Ghost is covered in petrol, but only one of the two shot victims in the Modern Warfare 2 scene are doused?

It has been factually confirmed, somewhere far and distant, but it’s out there that Sledgehammer cancelled the game project they were working on to later move onto Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward at the instruction of Activision. It is claimed Call of Duty: Ghosts features dynamic loading screens (such as rappelling from a helicopter or breaking a window to enter an area) and has destructive environments in single-player (these may be implemented in multiplayer later) – and additionally detailing that Spec-Ops has been replaced. Now that Modern Warfare 3 is already ancient history, but still greatly loved online – maybe, this ‘Ghost’ game has been reinstated, tweaked and modernised for a release later this year on next-gen platforms.

Or maybe not?

Until Activision make their official announcements usually around May time we can only speculate on what exciting changes lie ahead for the Call of Duty franchise to make it bigger and more dominant in the first-person-shooter genre.

It’s also worth taking into account that the apparent ‘source’ of this leak – a youtube guy who’s details and video we spotted on IGN, could have fabricated this rumour based on the ending of a fan-made trailer that gave the impression it was related to the next Call of Duty reveal – that video stated “and the GHOSTS will rise”.

Seems a little coincidental…

Sources Leak Modern Warfare 4 Voice-Over Scripts

Just moments after being told about Modern Warfare 4 on October 29th 2012 on a flight from Bodrum to London.

Only the other week, on a plane journey home from Bodrum going back to London I sat right in the seat next to Billy Murray, the voice of Captain Price. We had a conversation where he referred to every sentence about the next Modern Warfare game as “4” and from that I posted the news online. It went global pretty quickly, and of course as you would expect – denials came thick and fast, as you would expect if a game has not been officially announced.
