First look at Halo 5: Guardians Warzone Firefight

The wait is finally over and fans of Halo 5: Guardians can now get a glimpse of the up and coming Player vs Environment (PvE) Warzone Firefight mode, which featured during the Halo World Championship 2016 Finals.

Warzone Firefight will put you and up to seven other players together, working as a team to complete five rounds of increasingly difficult, time limited objectives. Add to this the most on-screen enemies in the history of the franchise, and you are looking at some serious firefights. However 343 Industries haven’t left you high and dry as you will have access to all your weapons, vehicles and mods via the REQ system, allowing you to bring the right tool for the job.

On a side note – if you haven’t already claimed you free Halo 5: Guardians – Halo World Championship REQ Pack then check out the link here.

Warzone Firefight is expected to hit our consoles sometime in the summer so stay tuned for further information.

Halo 5: Guardians – Hammer Storm launch trailer and future content revealed

As I sit here a content update is currently dropping from orbit on to your Xbox Ones, yes today is the launch for the next Halo 5 Guardians free update, Hammer Storm. As with the previous updates The Battle of Shadow and Light, The Cartographer’s Gift and Infinity’s Armory, Hammer Storm brings a whole wealth of new content ranging from new game modes, weapons and even a new map. Some of the key features are:

  • New game modes: Grifball, Assault and Fiesta. From the hammer-meets-sword sports sensation of Grifball, and weapon-roulette hilarity of Fiesta, to the fan-favorite Assault game type that’s been fully evolved for Halo 5: Guardians, Hammer Storm brings a brand new game mode to fit every flavor of Halo fan.
  • New map Torque. An entirely new environment primed for battle, Torque is a large symmetrical map that caters to Capture the Flag and Assault game modes. The pistons in each courtyard can provide key gameplay for cover, traversal, and objective movement.
  • New weapons change the game. The Gravity Hammer provides the proper tool for smashing enemies, and the Halo: CE Pistol brings back a legacy of single-handed death-dealing. Be sure to watch for the classic headshot death animation when you deliver the killing blow!
  • New REQ items. Hammer Storm has a myriad of new REQs, including attachments for loadout weapons, weapon skins, armors, emblems, assassinations, visors, and stances.
  • New possibilities with Forge. The new “ball” mechanic that powers the Assault and Grifball modes unlocks the potential for entirely new game types in Forge mode, not to mention paving the way for returning favorites like Oddball and Ricochet.

Halo-5-Guardians-Free-Spring-and-Summer-Content

With the release of Hammer Storm this brings the current free content since launch of Halo 5 to 11 new maps, 12 new modes (including Big Team Battle and Forge) and more than 180 new REQ items, now who can argue with that. However 343 Industries have hinted that this is not the end by no means and we are to expect to see a lot more free future content over the coming months. Apart from even more new maps, modes, vehicles, weapons and our much-loved REQs, a fan favourite is returning in the form of “Warzone Firefight” allowing players to battle together against common foes in classic PvE multiplayer.

So all you have to do now is fire up Halo 5: Guardians and the new Hammer Storm content will download automatically for you, it’s as easy as that. If your too excited and can’t wait for the download then why don’t you check out the trailer that has just been released for the launch of Hammer Storm.

Grifball coming back to Halo 5 in new update

The February update is almost upon us and coming with it will be Grifball, the fan favourite multiplayer mode. The Hammer Storm update will also feature a new Arena map dubbed Torque. The update will bring us new REQ items including the Gravity Hammer, Weapon skins, new Armor sets. Custom game options will now include Oddball and Richochet and much, much more.

You can read more about the pending update over at Halo Waypoint.

Infinity’s Armory brings new content to Halo 5: Guardians

Halo achilles-module

Halo 5: Guardians first content update for 2016 is upon us and looking at its content it’s only fitting that its take the name of  the largest and most powerful vessel designed by the UNSC. The Infinity’s Armory update brings a whole host of new content to the game in the form of new maps, new armour, weapons skins and even a blast from the past in the form of the Battle Rifle from Halo 2.

Players can now fight it out in two new battlegrounds, Riptide and Urban. For the lovers of the Arena gameplay Riptide challenges players who will need to quickly learn the winding routes of steel and sand to excel in its weathered structures. Urban brings an open map to Warzone Assault that has many sightlines, a perfect map for sharpshooters as you battle to control ‘The Armory’ situated on the top of a grassy hill.

The Halo 2 Battle Rifle makes a welcome return to the game as a Mythic loadout weapon REQ to deploy in Warzone. The Halo 2 Battle Rifle is also unlocked in Forge for those who want to recreate Halo 2 maps and take their nostalgia to the next level. Along with this comes two new Carbine REQS in the form of Rain of Oblivion, an uncommon upgraded carbine with fully automatic action and an extended magazine and Blood of Suban, a rare advanced carbine that that fires armor-piercing Needler shards.

Last but not least we have the new ACHILLES armour set, but stop right there it’s not going to be as easy as walking in and picking it off the shelf. To receive this armor your Spartan Company must achieve Level 3 in all Kill Commendations and to get the helmet Spartan Companies must achieve Level 5 in all Kill Commendations.

Infinity’s Armory will automatically download and install for all Halo 5: Guardian players from today but for more information visit Halo Waypoint.

Shooter of the Year

The year is coming to a close and so it’s time once again to take a look back at all the great games that have been released in 2015.

Every day up until the end of the year we’ll be revealing our top three games from a number of different categories, all the way up until the coveted Game of the Year reveal.

Next up is Shooter of the Year.

Third Place – Halo 5: Guardians

As the middle game in a new Halo trilogy, Halo 5’s storytelling struggles slightly but superb enhancements to the familiar, arcade action that Halo is so well known for still put this entry near the top of our Game of the Year list.

Dave Moran reviewed Halo 5 and commented on the excellent new mobility, describing it as:

…the best mobility and skill set I’ve ever used while playing as a Spartan.

and allowing

…plenty of ways to reach an objective or to deal with a group of enemies.

Meanwhile, an excellent multiplayer suite with the terrific new War Zone mode offers oodles of replayability.

Indeed the Halo series remains strong with this latest entry and Halo 5 is well deserving of a top three position in out Shooter of the Year category.

Second Place – Rainbow 6 Siege

Rainbow 6 Siege brings back the much loved, tactical, military shooter along with some exceptional enhancements that make the team-based gunplay even more compelling.

Richard Berry reviewed Siege and said

It’s a thrilling experience and one that can play out in any number of different ways…

and indeed this ability to offer so many different scenarios within its ten maps is part of why we can’t stop playing it over at TiX towers. The destructibility, and intractable enemies makes this latest iteration in the Rainbow 6 saga a stunning success, one that so nearly took top spot as Shooter of the Year.

Shooter of the Game – Star Wars: Battlefront

The last year has been a strongly hyped build up to both a new Star Wars film and the revival of the Battlefront series. And despite fears over content and quality, once the new Star Wars shooter finally released it made a strong impression on even the most cynical of Star Wars fans.

The authenticity to the source material is phenomenal, as Richard Berry says in his review

DICE have lovingly recreated the universe of Star Wars. From cargo crates and power couplings to X-Wings and Lightsabers – nothing has been left to chance or imitation – everything has been modelled from the original props and it makes for a wonderful experience and looks absolutely stunning.

We at TiX towers couldn’t agree more but we all agree that our Star Wars love may be clouding our judgement. We searched our minds, quelled the dark side, and voted, and by a mere single vote Star Wars Battlefront beat out Rainbow 6 Siege for Shooter of the Year.

Be sure to check out the site again tomorrow to see the next category and its winner.

Honourable mentions go to Gears of War Ultimate Edition, World of Tanks Xbox One Edition, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Wolfenstien: The Old Blood, all of which were nominated by the TiX team but didn’t quite make the cut.

Halo 5 is the guardian of new sales record

Halo5 (4)

Halo 5. It’s had to have been one of the most anticipated Xbox One titles since the hardware was released.

This has been reflected in the first week’s sales figures. Halo 5: Guardians racked up a record-busting $400 Million in sales of software and franchise-related hardware, outstripping even the latest Bond film’s takings here in the UK by more than £1 Million.

This also pushes the overall takings for the franchise, from conception, to over $5 Billion in it’s lifetime. $5 Billion!

It’s not the only impressive stat that the Master Chief can boast. Halo 5 now holds the title of fastest-selling Xbox One exclusive so far.  It was also the most played game on Xbox Live last week. Fans have logged more than 21 Million hours of total gameplay, with 12 Million of those on the campaign alone.

The only thing that’s missing would be a Guinness World Record, right? Well, the Halo 5: Live event won that accolade for most watched video game launch broadcast with an impressive 330,000 unique viewers and more than 5.5 million total views throughout the week.

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, is understandably proud;

The success of Halo 5: Guardians is a testament to the innovative work from the entire team at 343 Industries to bring this installment to Xbox One and the incredible community of fans who have come to love the story, characters and gameplay central to the franchise. The game represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned it’s place as the anchor title of the greatest holiday games lineup in Xbox history.
