Warner Bros and IO Interactive announce Hitman 2

OK folks, E3 is cancelled, I have all the news I need right here! Well, maybe a slight overreaction but I am so stoked to hear this news. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and independent game developer, IO Interactive have announced that Hitman 2 will be released on 13th November 2018 with a new Sniper Assassin mode that is available now for anyone who pre-orders.

Hitman 2 is the follow-up to the 2016 released Hitman Season 1 and will feature entirely new hyper-detailed sandboxes full of living, breathing environments to explore. The lack of the word ‘season’ confirms that the episodic release won’t be happening this time, but IO interactive have assured us that the post launch content of the elusive targets and special one-off content drops of new missions will still be present.

Hitman 2 takes players on a global adventure across a mix of bustling international locations, including a vibrant Miami setting with the colourful ambience of an in-progress motorsport race bringing a new backdrop to the series. From sun-drenched streets to dark and dangerous rainforests, each intricate location provides multiple paths to discover and unparalleled game depth.

Continuing the ultimate spy thriller story, Hitman 2 allows players to take on the role of the masterful Agent 47 and embark on a mission to hunt the elusive Shadow Client and unravel his militia once and for all. However, when 47 learns the hidden truth about his past, nothing will ever be the same.

Hitman 2 introduces new ways to play with the Sniper Assassin mode, a standalone feature that brings a co-op experience to the Hitman series for the first time, allowing two players to work together online to take down their targets. Sniper Assassin can also be enjoyed in a single player mode for those who want to play as Agent 47.

Sniper Assassin is available to play now as an early access bonus for consumers who pre-order the Hitman Standard, Gold or Collector’s Edition. The Hitman 2 Standard Edition is available for pre-order now. The Gold Edition is available for pre-order now exclusively at UK retailer GAME. The Collector’s Edition will be available for pre-order soon.

“We are thrilled to partner with IO Interactive on HITMAN™ 2 and bring the latest game in this iconic franchise to the passionate HITMAN™ fanbase and new players,” said David Haddad, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “IO Interactive has done a fantastic job with the Hitman franchise, and this new game will provide a distinct gameplay experience for players to be creative in larger sandbox locations.”

“We are very proud to announce HITMAN™ 2 as the next exciting chapter in our ever-expanding world of assassination. Building on the success of our previous game, HITMAN™ 2 introduces exciting new features, new modes and franchise firsts to make for a larger and richer game,” said Hakan Abrak, CEO, IO Interactive. “We couldn’t have wished for a better partner than Warner Bros. to bring this game to our passionate community and introduce new players to our universe. Welcome back 47!”

That sound you hear is me heading off to pre-order!

Friday the 13th to get “Hitman” inspired single player Challenge mode

When launched, the Friday the 13th game achieved a cult following, as the multiplayer only horror game featured some gruesome ways for Jason to kill his opponents. But, there wasn’t much to do if you were a single player apart from practice against AI controlled campers. That’s all set to change as developer Illfonic have announced plans to introduce a “Hitman” inspired single player mode to the game, called Challenges. Warning, the video below shows some of those gruesome kills and is definitely not one for the squeamish.

In a recent blog post (which can be found here), the developer stated that “The challenges could be as simple as “Kill everyone”, but then you might find a challenge that asks you to locate a specific counselor and kill them first. Or perhaps kill someone a specific way or with a specific weapon.”

They also directly referenced the comparison with Hitman, “That’s the approach we took with challenges. There’s a certain, very popular game, with a bald protagonist in a suit with a barcode on his neck. Yeah, that one. If you played that game, you kinda see the direction we’re going with Challenges. Except you’re not an elite special agent…you’re Jason.”

Although I must admit that Friday the 13th has passed me by, this new mode looks perfect for me, and now is probably the time I will make that purchase.

Hitman Patient Zero New Content Revealed – Xbox One X Enhanced

YESSSSSSS! My GOTY 2016 has some new content coming! But it will not be free for those of us who have already purchased the complete season one, although it will be free in the soon to be released Game Of The Year edition. Well, my verdict on that is “Who Cares?”. As we know, IO Interactive became independent after Square Enix ditched them, and if this means the purchase price of the new content allows that studio to continue then great!

The main announcement was that of the Game of The Year edition which not only includes the new patient Zero mission but loads and loads of extra goodness. Full details after the video!

HITMAN – Game of the Year Edition will be released digitally on November 7th 2017 for PS4, Xbox One and PC!
Here’s a full rundown of what’s included:

  • HITMAN The Complete First Season – This is everything that we created for HITMAN Season One. All seven locations, all bonus missions, all of the Challenge Packs, Escalation Contracts, Featured Contracts and more than 700 challenges! We’re talking more than 100 hours of gameplay and a game that we’re continuing to improve. See below for more of that.
  • New: ‘Patient Zero’ Campaign – After the routine elimination of a target, a contingency plan to unleash a global pandemic is triggered and Agent 47 must race against the clock to prevent a virus from spreading. This four-mission campaign spans different locations in the game, each one re-worked from the original settings with new gameplay opportunities, disguises, characters, challenges, gameplay mechanics, AI behaviour and HUD elements. Bangkok, Sapienza, Colorado and Hokkaido look and feel completely different with a new time of day and new custom music created by the composer for Season One, Niels Bye Nielsen.
  • New: Clown Suit and themed weapon – Corky the Clown is back! This fan-favourite from Blood Money returns in HITMAN and his red wig, colourful socks and giant shoes look better than ever! Not only does the clown suit look great, but it’s the only way to carry his signature weapon without attracting attention. ‘A New Bat’ will trigger custom sound and visual effects every time it is used.
  • New: Raven Suit and themed weapon – Where tactical meets practical and stylish, you’ll find the Raven Suit. This is the perfect choice for Agent 47’s sniper operations. The Raven Suit is black and charcoal with the finest gloves and pockets for every tool. The Sieger 300 Ghost is a unique ICA variant of the Sieger 300 and the all-black rifle perfectly matches the Raven Suit for high-precision, high-damage long-range engagements. It’s got a supressor, an extended scope with four levels of zoom and the Marksman perk, which allows you to improve your aim and slow time.
  • New: Cowboy Suit and themed weapon – The Cowboy suit is steel blue on patriotic white and comes complete with a beautiful set of albino alligator boots, sunglasses and a cowboy hat as pure as Colorado snow. Naturally, the belt buckle is the size of your fist. Accompanying this suit is The Striker; a magnum pistol that packs one hell of a punch. Not only does it have increased damage at all ranges, it also knocks back targets and has piercing rounds.
  • New: 3 themed Escalation Contracts – There’s more! We’ve created a new Escalation Contract for each new weapon/suit combination. You’ll be dressing in each new suit and using each new weapon as you complete Escalation Contracts with some brand new complications based on some new gameplay mechanics. We’ve themed these new features with each suit to make for some unique experiences. Each Escalation comes with a new starting location unique to that Contract and all of the Escalations are made up of 3-stages, so expect the challenge to ramp up quickly- one of the Escalations reaches 7 targets, something we’ve never done before in this game. Completing each Escalation Contract will unlock the corresponding weapon to be used in all locations across the entire game, which means that Clown Only, Striker Only runs are now possible and we can’t wait to see them!

Also, on November 7th the Xbox One X version of the game will be available to run in native 4K and at a higher framerate. More details will be released soon.

And finally, starting in November, we will re-activate Elusive Targets. If you missed any Elusive Targets the first time around, or if you are new to HITMAN, this is your chance to experience these intense time-limited targets. All of the suit unlocks are back in play for both new and existing players to complete their collection. If you’ve already completed or failed an Elusive Target, you won’t be able to play that specific contract again; your record for that contract will stand and cannot be altered. Re-activated ET’s will still be time-limited and the first one will be re-activated shortly after the release of our Game of the Year Edition on November 7th.

October update revealed for Hitman which includes “New” content!

IO Interactive are still releasing new content for (my 2016 GOTY) Hitman. The last few months have seen the content shift to user created contracts, but this month sees a tease for some new original content.

On the official press statement Travis from IO stated;

“Mark this date on your calendars: October 24th. That’s the date when we will reveal brand new content for the game.
We’re going to let the announcement itself do all the talking, but there is one thing we want to clarify before then; this upcoming content is not “Season 2”. We’re saying that now to keep expectations in check.
So, save the date, let’s hope it doesn’t leak and we’ll see you there!”

Exciting news for the Hitman fans out there! However, even without that there is still a lot of new content being added.

On October 13th there will be 10 new featured contracts and a Master Scarecrow challenge pack.

“Colorado is the only location yet to have an added Challenge Pack. That ends this month with the release of The Master Scarecrow Challenge Pack. Look forward to 5 new challenges, each with a high amount of location mastery; a great way to top out your mastery and collect any remaining unlocks. Completing all of the challenges will unlock a new item for 47 to use in all locations. We’ll reveal more about this Challenge Pack and the new item next week.”

Could Multiplayer be coming to Hitman?

A recent job posting on business social media platform LinkedIn from Hitman developer IO Interactive has hinted at multiplayer coming to Hitman, or suggests the Danish developer is working on other titles.

The job description of Multiplayer Programmer is described as –

Io-Interactive is currently looking for a network/multiplayer programmer to join our Multiplayer team in Copenhagen, in order to extend our state-of-the-art Glacier 2 technology with multiplayer capabilities. Help us bring multiplayer to new projects at Io-Interactive.

As a member of the Multiplayer team you will contribute to design and implement the network/multiplayer stack for the Glacier 2 engine and for the games that needs to support multiplayer.

Your team will be responsible for the development of the network layer, work closely with the engine team to co-develop the object replication layer, collaborate with the AI/gameplay team to define and implement network aware features, workflows and setups, share responsibility with the online team to create, run and monitor our game-servers and backend infrastructure.

The job description also states it would be advantageous to have experience working on Xbox and PS4 Consoles.

So, is this Hitman? Or a new, or reboot of another franchise?

Hitman: Sniper Challenge shoots onto Backwards Compatibility

The new owner of the Hitman IP, IO Interactive has tweeted to announce that Hitman Sniper Challenge is now available on backwards compatibility on the Xbox One. There is some confusion as apparently this has been available previously with the BC release of Hitman Absolution.

Sniper Challenge was an exclusive standalone pre-order sniper experience, available to gamers who pre-ordered Absolution.

But, if the developer says its now available then I believe them, due to the fact that I personally LOVE this dev team!

Hitman July Update and Mr Giggles revealed as final Elusive Target

It always gives me great pleasure to write up news about Hitman, and I am so looking forward to writing the news piece about the launch of Season 2! Until then, IO Interactive keeps the updates coming and the July patch has released this week.

According to IO the July update has made the game “more satisfying and viable for all players.” In particular, the developer has reduced the rate of NPC pistols. It has also reduced the amount of damage that players take at mid- to long distances, while the rate their health recovers has been increased. Full patch notes are below.

The final (sob) elusive target has also been reveales as “Mr Giggles” an entertainer of the more macabre kind. He will be somewhere in Marrakesh for the next 10 days, and as usual I will be recording my attempt for your viewing pleasure. The last elusive target went well for me as you can see below!

The Hitman July 2017 Patch Notes are;

  • Xbox One Loading Times – After a recent update, Xbox One users reported to us that the game was taking longer to load than usual, especially when restarting a contract. We’ve looked into this and now have the Xbox One loading times back to where they should be. Thanks to our Xbox One players who reported this.
  • Excuse me, I found a weapon – We’ve fixed an issue that could cause guards to repeatedly drop weapons that they discovered on the ground. This issue was prominent on The Icon mission.
  • Bathroom Break – We’ve fixed an issue that could cause the toilet in the Marrakesh school to behave erratically after 47 kicks it onto Zaydan. This could occasionally result in 47’s death. Seriously.
  • Cancelling Connecting – We’ve fixed an issue that could cause players to inadvertently cancel the “connecting” prompt and enter “Offline Mode.”
  • Opportunity Lost After Loading – We’ve fixed an issue that could cause the Opportunity Marker (the little light bulb) to disappear after a save/load cycle.
  • Trespassing v Hostile Area – We’ve implemented a fix for a Known Issue from our June Update. The “Trespassing” and “Hostile Area” status messages on the mini-map now display correctly.
  • Maximum Mastery – We heard that some players have had issues unlocking the trophies/achievements associated with reaching Mastery level 20 in various locations. We’ve implemented a change so that the game will re-check whether you have reached level 20 when you launch the game and award the appropriate trophies/achievements.
  • Unconscious Witness – We’ve also implemented a fix for the other Known Issue from our June Update. The “Unconscious Witness” status on the mini-map is know displayed correctly.
  • Miscellaneous Bug Fixes – We’ve fixed other minor issues across the board to keep the game in fantastic shape.
