Shadow of the Tomb Raider launching on September 14th

Lara’s Back. Back Again. Lara’s Back. Tell your Friends.

It’s been a busy news day, made all the better by the official announcement (and worst kept secret ever) that Lara Croft is back on September 14th in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third game and climactic finale in heroine Lara Croft’s origin trilogy, which began in 2013 with Tomb Raider and continued in 2015 with Rise of the Tomb Raider, which is currently available on Xbox Game Pass.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be unveiled to the world on April 27, 2018.

Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to Xbox Game Pass

In a not so cryptic tweet yesterday, Xbox Live’s Major Nelson hinted that eight new games are winging their way to the Xbox Game Pass service. However, in the accompanying picture its quite clear that one of these eight will be Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Rise of the Tomb Raider was originally released in November 2017 and follows Lara Croft as she ventures into Siberia in search of the legendary city of Kitezh, whilst battling a paramilitary organization called “the Trinity” that intends on beating her to the city’s promise of immortality. As of November 2017, the game has sold nearly 7 million copies. In 2017 the game was updated to be Xbox One X Enhanced so X owners amongst us can now play in glorious 4K!

A smart move by Microsoft as the new Tomb Raider film is getting it’s theatrical release in March also, so interest in the franchise will be heightened, and I guess they hope that movie goers will head home to their console and maybe pick up a Game Pass subscription in order to continue their time with Lara.

Official Rise of the Tomb Raider Blog Opens Up about Exclusivity Deal

rottr_invert

Crystal Dynamic’s – the development studio behind Rise of the Tomb Raider, has responder to comments and questions from fans regarding the debate on exclusivity to Xbox One. Having looked through the posts on several channels they collected the questions that was asked the most and compiled the following below:

What does exclusive to Xbox mean?
It means that Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming Holiday 2015 exclusively on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Does the exclusive to Xbox have a duration? Is it timed? How long is the duration? Can we expect a PlayStation 4 or PC release in the future?
Yes, our deal with Microsoft has a duration. We aren’t discussing details of the deal, and are focused on delivering a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Did Crystal Dynamics know about this deal?
Yes, Crystal Dynamics is excited to be partnering with Microsoft to make the best game possible. As Darrell mentioned in his message, we have a long history with Microsoft and they have been a very strong supporter of the franchise. They will help us grow and nurture the Tomb Raider franchise more than ever before.

Were the fans considered when making this decision? Are Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix aware of the franchise history with PlayStation and on PC?
Of course. We did not make this decision lightly. Our goal is to build the best game that we possibly can, and our relationship with Microsoft will help us realize our vision for the game.

Why didn’t Microsoft, Square Enix or Crystal Dynamics say upfront it was a timed exclusive? Why all the indirect language?
We certainly didn’t intend to cause any confusion with the announcement. The Microsoft Gamescom stage was a great place to make the initial announcement, but not necessarily to go into details.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris for Xbox One

Crystal Dynamics, has today announced Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris. The game will launch on the Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and is the sequel to the last-gen digital hit Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Featuring stunning visuals and a brand-new story, players must work together to explore the temple, defeat hordes of enemies from the Egyptian underworld, solve devious puzzles, and avoid deadly traps. All the while, players will compete for treasure, powerful artifacts, and ultimate bragging rights.

“After the immensely positive reception we received for our debut co-op adventure Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, we always hoped that we would find the time for Lara to return in another classic AAA digital arcade title,” said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Product Development and Western Studios. “We are excited to expand upon Guardian of Light’s legacy with an entirely new adventure, and challenged ourselves to create fun new ways to play. Four-player co-op in Lara’s world combined with Crystal Dynamics’ high production values are being brought to a new generation of platforms and we are excited for more friends to share in the adventure together.”

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris takes place deep in the deserts of Egypt. In her new adventure, Lara must join forces with rival treasure hunter Carter Bell and imprisoned gods Horus and Isis, to defeat the evil god Set. As Lara and her companions fight the elements of nature across the sands and through ancient tombs, they will battle legendary deities and creatures of myth. With the fate of the world at stake, Lara must recover the fragments of Osiris to stop Set from enslaving all mankind.

Rise of the Tomb Raider – Lara’s Back

Crystal Dynamics, and Square Enix, today announced the next outing in the critically acclaimed and award-winning Tomb Raider series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, which will redefine survival action during sometime in 2015.

In her first adventure, Lara Croft was forged into a true survivor, but she glimpsed a deeper, secret world. In the next chapter of her journey, Lara must use her survival skills and wits, learn to trust new friends, and ultimately accept her destiny as the Tomb Raider.

“With the power of the new generation, and our proprietary Foundation engine, our high octane action moments will be even more epic. Multiple locations around the world will be filled with exploration spaces that are some of the most beautifully hostile places on earth and over three times larger than we could achieve before,” said Darrell Gallagher, Head of Product Development and Western Studios at Square Enix. “Our digital actors will rival CG quality, and after hearing the cry from our fans loud and clear, we will put the tombs back into Tomb Raider, all in our gritty Survival-Action style.”

Rise of the Tomb Raider builds upon the formula that made Tomb Raider a success, and features the return of Camilla Luddington as Lara Croft. Camilla will take character performance to new heights as Lara pushes herself beyond human limits and is confronted with what it means to become a hero. Once again, Crystal Dynamics is proud to have the award-winning author Rhianna Pratchett as a key member of the writing team, helping craft a story that delves into Lara’s inner turmoil and motivations in this critical second act of her journey.

Xbox One – Tomb Raider Sequel Confirmed

TOMBRAIDER_reviewlogo

Phil Rogers, CEO for Square Enix in the Americas and Europe for the studio and publishing businesses took to the Square Enix blog to confirm a nice little surprise. Starting off with an introduction into how the videogame business is changing, how the businesses are evolving and then “Bang!” he dropped the money shot!

“Square Enix is in production with a number of next generation projects, including Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III, which were announced at this year’s E3, and Thief coming in 2014. I am also excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel – something you may have heard about recently!

In the future, we’ll offer gamers more choice, support more platforms and try new things – but we will make sure that whatever the platform, we’ll always keep our focus on raising the quality bar. We feel that is what gamers should expect from a Square Enix game.”

The original Tomb Raider reboot on Xbox 360 was rated 10 out of 10 in the thisisxbox.com review:

Tomb Raider is a gamers eye-candy in that I have not been this impressed with a game visually since the release of The Witcher 2 last year. Every scene is depicted in vast detail that portrays the essence of the story as you play along. Each part of the island from the snowy mountains, the shanty towns, the beaches, tombs, and undiscovered forests all strike a graphic portrayal of a lost island as exactly as you would imagine it to be. It is a very polished game with exceptional detail on every wall, corner, building, character and environmental element in a destructive yet magical land. Because Tomb Raider plays the part, looks the part you just can’t put it down for a minute and when you do – all you can think about is your next instalment of the adventure!

If you’re exceptionally delighted by this news, why not share your opinion below…

Ubisoft’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, and voice actors Mark Meer (Commander Shepard) and Camilla Luddington (Lara Croft) are to headline the Games Stage at the MCM London Comic Con later this month, stage organisers Xbox360Achievements.org (X360A) and PS3Trophies.org (PS3T) have announced.

Held on 24-26 May at ExCel London, the MCM London Comic Con – Europe’s equivalent to the San Diego Comic Con – last year welcomed over 70,000 visitors through its doors, with the Games Stage live stream reaching an additional 40,000 people.

“We’re very excited to welcome Ubisoft back to the Games Stage again this year after last year’s successful Assassin’s Creed III demos,” said Dan Webb, Editor-in-Chief of X360A and PS3T. “We’ve got some cool stuff lined up with Splinter Cell Blacklist and we’re excited to give fans a chance to see the game before its August release.”

Mark Meer, who rose to fame with his performance as Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect trilogy, and Camilla Luddington (True Blood, Grey’s Anatomy), who plays iconic heroine Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider, will also join X360A and PS3T on stage for some fun and games at the show.

“Mark has essentially become a household name in video game circles since his stunning performance as Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect trilogy, while Camilla did a stunning job with Lara in the new reboot,” commented Webb. “It’s a privilege and an honour to welcome them both onto our stage at the end of the month.
