As we hinted at in the last few weeks, Harmonix have finally confirmed via their forums that Rock Band 4 for the Xbox One will release this autumn.
They have teamed up with Mad Catz to make sure that everybody will be ready to rock it out and bring the franchise to a new generation of consoles, focusing on the features and gameplay that people love and to expand the franchise in innovative ways that were touted to fans via a survey. What better way to find out what players want than a funky survey?
Harmonix Chief Executive Steve Janiak is clearly excited,
With Rock Band 4, we’re doubling down on the energy and excitement of playing music live with your friends.
Mad Catz President and CEO Darren Richardson added,
We couldn’t be happier to be working with Harmonix and help bring the band back together for the launch of Rock Band 4.
Rock Band 4 will support over 2000 tracks that have been released since the franchise was first launched back in 2007, so if you’ve got a smart playlist of tracks that you’d already bought on your 360, Harmonix say that as long as the track is still licensed you’ll be able to redownload it as legacy DLC. The timing of the release of this legacy DLC is yet to be determined, so don’t be surprised if it takes a few weeks for it to be transferred fully.
Harmonix are also working very hard with Mad Catz and Microsoft for a solution to making your legacy guitars, keyboard, mics and drums work with the One, more information on that will be coming at a later date. The good news is, if you are feeling a little flush in the cash department, Rock Band 4 will have a whole new range of One-compatible instruments.
To celebrate this announcement, you could crack out Rock Band 3 on your trusty 360, we know you still have it, and download “I Still Believe” by Frank Turner, for free! We love free stuff.
More details on the features will be forthcoming in May this year, but in the meantime, here’s a smart featurette from those enthusiastic Harmonix developers. What with This and Elite: Dangerous being confirm, I’m in about as much Xbox heaven as I can stand at the minute. What was your favourite Rock Band track? Let us know in the comments below.
