While Descenders is still in Xbox One’s Preview program, it doesn’t mean that RageSquid are content with just tweaking the experience when bugs and feedback are submitted. Launching August 7, the world of Descenders is going to get hot, hot, hot – a bit like the heatwave the UK has been ‘enjoying’.
The Ring of Fire update brings a brand new location to whip, jump and scrub your way through and brings the total area number to five. Aptly named Volcano, stunts are omitted in favour of “tectonics” – which means a bumpy ride that is accompanied by the immediate danger of flowing lava!
Unlike the other areas, The volcano region is only accessible by completing special requirements during your Descender runs. The area also contains a new – third – secret area so keep your head on a swivel. To top the update off, new freeride options, kits and bikes have also been added.
Procedurally generated downhill mountain bike game, Descenders, will finally unleash upon Xbox Game Preview tomorrow – Tuesday May 15 – and boy is it fun.
Set across several locations, you must make your way downhill, over or around numerous obstacles and jumps without crashing. Crash and not only will you reset to the last checkpoint, but you will also lose a life. Lose all your lives and it’s game over. All is not lost though. Each time you choose a course from the map – that spiders out across each region – you are set a bonus objective. Complete the objective and you gain a life.
Nail tricks on your descent and get rewarded with rep. Gain enough rep and you will get a new crew member, which is essentially a buff to your career, lasting until you run out of lives. The objective of each area is to reach the boss jump – an intense leap of madness. Nail this and you move on to the next region. All this – and more – awaits you on the mountainside of Descenders.
Publisher No More Robots have announced that Descenders, the downhill mountain biking game from Action Henk studio RageSquid, is coming exclusively to console on Xbox One in Xbox Game Preview.
Descenders is essentially an extreme downhill mountain bike freeriding game, where you race and jump through procedurally generated worlds, filled with the fear that a single wrong move could end it all. The game plays out across four unique worlds, starting in the Scottish Highlands, weaving through dense forests, opening out into gaping, humid canyons, before chucking you out of a helicopter on the highest and most dangerous mountain peaks.
Because each world is procedurally generated you won’t see the same course twice, meaning that riders will have to rely on their own skill as they improve at the game. There’s no memorising courses to get quicker here! Everything you do in Descenders earns you rep points, and the bigger the stunts the more points you will earn. Failing will also lose your rep points so there is a definite risk vs reward strategy to be considered.
Extreme downhill freeriding isn’t something that immediately comes to mind when you hear that new mountain bike game is in development, but that’s exactly what Descenders is about.
Developed by Action Henk studio RageSquid, Descenders features procedurally generated worlds. Every risk, jump, whip and scrub – mountain biker speak – will earn you rep as you plummet head first down a mountainside on two wheels, wipeout and you lose everything, you can even throw in the odd trick if you’re feeling flashy.
If you like the sound of Descenders, then sign up for the beta by selecting a team over at the Descenders Discord.
Flying the flag for Blighty, Mike Rose’s new publishing label, No More Robots will be publishing the game.
