Sci-Fi fantasy title ELEX dated for Xbox

Who doesn’t love an open-world action-packed RPG epic? Well, apart from you, (you know who you are, and we’re watching), Piranha Bytes along with THQ Nordic love the genre. They’ve announced today, the release date and Collector’s Edition details for their next epic, ELEX.

So, what can you expect from ELEX (that’s the correct way to format it too, you appear to have to shout it)? Well, seeing as this comes from the creators of Risen and Gothic, you’re going to have to set your bar pretty high.

Higher than that.

That’ll do it.

ELEX is a hand-crafted action role-playing game that is set in a post-apocalyptic science-fantasy universe. A precious, limited resource has landed on the planet, crash landed actually, in the form of a meteor. This unleashes great power and opens the door to magic, with the ability to re-sculpt life into new forms. You’ll be able to choose a faction, pick a companion to influence the world with and then ponder the countless weapons and fighting styles you’ll have to choose from.

Grab a shotgun, lay your hands on a flamethrower, pick up a plasma rifle or be a little more basic with swords, axes and bows. The choice is all yours in this seamless open world full of mutated creatures, original characters, powerful action and not forgetting the deep moral choices. Every decision taken will hammer the future of the world in your game.

THQ Nordic aren’t content with merely announcing a release date, oh, no. You should know them better than that by now. They’ve also released details of the Collector’s Edition of ELEX and what you’ll be getting if you decide to go for it. Inside that Collector’s Edition, you’ll find:

  • A 10-inch high figurine of an Alb Mage
  • A 2-inch amulet in the form of a combat drone
  • A cloth map, showing the world of Magalan
  • The original game score on CD
  • An artbook
  • The game’s manual
  • Obviously, the game itself

More details will surely emerge on the price point for the Collector’s Edition of ELEX closer to the release date, which brings me neatly on to that subject.

ELEX is currenly looking at a release date of the 17th of October.

Here’s the cinematic trailer that accompanies this news. Enjoy.

Elex heading to Xbox One

Elex, announced today from Nordic Games and Piranha Bytes, seems a strange concept on the face of it.

A post-apocalyptic universe where sci-fi meets fantasy in a seamlessly stunning blend of elements. Elex will challenge you with interesting characters, mutant creatures, deep moral choices and thrilling action.

You decide which path to take, man or machine. There is no right or wrong choice when it comes to making your own way in the world of Magalan.

Civilised and with a population of billions, Magalan was looking to the future so hard that it missed the meteor heading straight for it. Those who survived are now locked in a battle to stay as survivors.

At the centre of this fight is the element, Elex. This precious resource arrived in limited quantities with the meteor. This new element can power machines and open the door to magic. It can also re-sculpt life into new and terrifying forms.

Part of your quest is to help decide which of these choices should be the future of Magalan. Can the magic and tech save this world, or will this power destroy what is left of Magalan.

The game will feature an open world exploration mechanic where you will have access to all five regions, right from the very start. You’ll be able to go exactly where you want to, when you want to.

There will be many weapons to defend yourself with. From swords and axes to bows, crossbows and harpoons, you’ll have arguably the widest selection of armaments ever assembled. You could also pick up a shotgun, plasma rifle or flame thrower. Thanks to the power of the meteor’s element cargo, the list is endless.

You’ll be able to find a companion in Elex too. The game encourages you to choose a faction to influence how the world will choose to recover. This, in turn will allow you to fully develop your individual skills.

If you’d like to know more about it, head on over to the game’s own website, but be sure to head back to view the new ‘Mood’ trailer, below.

Elex will be heading to Xbox One this winter.

Risen 3 – Announced for August 2014 Release

Piranha Bytes, the creators of Gothic and Risen, return to their origins with a new classic RPG, Risen 3: Titan Lords , set for release in August 2014 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The key element of the cult Gothic series as well as Risen is the vivid world and the freedom to explore it. The world of Risen 3: Titan Lords will be diverse, authentic and full of life, providing the player with an authentic, classic RPG experience. Bjoern Pankratz, Project Lead at Piranha Bytes said of the announcement:

“Like a carpenter with a handcrafted piece of furniture, we put together the story, the characters and the landscape until it all fits and the player has the possibility to discover things all around the place. You can try out and find things that others might not. Exploration is the key to our game”

The world of Risen 3 is abandoned by all gods and suffers from the Titan Wars when a new threat rises from the soil. A young warrior is attacked from the shadows and deprived of his soul. He sets off to reclaim what is lost amidst the darkness that is spreading throughout the world. The banned Mages could be powerful allies on his quest. To get their help, he needs to find the Mage sanctuary on Taranis, also known as the Island of Thunder. Protected by the Guardians, the Mages search the mines of Taranis for crystals loaded with magic energy. Will the player join the Guardians to get in contact with the Mages? Or will he choose one of the other guilds in Risen 3 to reach his goals?
