For Honor Season Pass details leaked

It’s not only us who are eager for the release of Ubisofts For Honor, as it looked like someone accidentally posted on the official game website details of the various Editions available to buy and the Season Pass content. No sooner had it been posted, the mistake was realised and the content taken down, but it was just long enough for a Reddit user to take a few screenshots of the information. So what can we expect?

For Honor Season Pass

So the game will come in three flavors, Standard, Deluxe and Gold and with each one comes more and more goodies and for those who have trouble with the image here is a quick breakdown of the three versions.

Standard

  • For Honor Game

Deluxe – Contents of Standard and;

  • 3 unique helmet crests
  • Deluxe edition emblem
  • Special execution smoke effect
  • 7 day champion status

Gold – Content of Standard and Deluxe, plus the Season Pass contents which is;

  • 6 All-new warriors (plus 1 week early access)
  • Early access to new content
  • Exclusive sunbeam emote for all 12 warriors
  • 3 scavenger crates
  • Exclusive Emblem
  • 30-day champion status
  • Plus additional all new content

For Honor Gold Edition

As you can see Gold comes with the Season Pass but there is an important thing to note with this. The information states that you will get early access to new content and new warriors, not exclusive. This tells us that For Honor is probably going down the route of the very successful Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege series where all characters are available to everyone at some point but it might mean for non-Season Pass holders you might have to grind for them to unlock them. This means that no-one gets left behind because they don’t have a certain map or character, which has proven to keep the gaming community very happy in the long term. Therefore if you don’t have the Season Pass it won’t actually stop you from playing the game in any way shape or form.

Also the other thing to note is that the Season Pass includes Scavenger Crates, which in simple terms probably means Loot Boxes. This would explain why all the content and updates will be free as Loot Boxes have proven successful in generating more income for developers than Season Passes and content updates. Now there is a huge ongoing discussion around loot boxes, some people love them, some hate them, but let’s face it they are becoming more and more a part of modern game development, for example Call of Duty or Overwatch.

So is For Honor on your must buy list, and what do you think of the whole loot box debate, let us know?

For Honor is due out for the Xbox One and PC on the 14th February, but if you are still unsure then sign up for the up and coming Beta and get a feel for what is being described as the next big medieval brawler.

Final Fantasy XV DLC and patches roadmap

Square Enix’s latest in the Final Fantasy series has been out for just over month now, treating us all to an excellent slice of action RPG adventure – learn more in our review. However, the experience wasn’t quite complete, and Square Enix are keen to remedy that.

The Season Pass will, of course, add additional elements to the game over the course of the year, including extra story content based on protagonist Noctis’ party of battle-brothers: Gladiolus, Prompto and Ignis, as well as a multiplayer mode of some sorts. But, whether you have the Season Pass or not, there will also be additional, free tweaks, extra content and events to flesh out the story, making it more coherent and fun.

ffxv-news-1

Back in December, FFXV Director Hajime Tabata released a press statement covering the short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals for adding additional content to the game on the Square Enix blog.

In the short-term the plan is to make enhancements to Chapter 13, such as increasing the strength of the Ring of Lucii. But Tabata has hinted there’ll be more to it than that, and yesterday’s tweet announcing an upcoming New Year broadcast – apparently, thanks to Nova Crystallis for translating – will hopefully fill in some more details very soon.

The mid-term plan is to apparently enhance the overall story, such as adding scene to better inform us of character’s motivations. But with voice-over work in multiple languages required, this may well be some time off.

ffxv-news-2

The long-term plan is to add additional playable characters, or more specifically, more characters that can join your party. This may even include the avatar you’ll be able to create in the Season Passes multiplayer element, according to the press release. Additionally, other features, tweaks and additions are also on the table, such as limited time hunts and boss encounters with special rewards or achievements.

A couple of patches, and the Holiday Bonus Pack, have already been released, adding a New Game Plus that allows you to carry over your stats, a level limiting item that allows you to attempt a level 1 run-through of the game, items to help gain more AP, and multiple other items that can aid you in the adventure. However, the most intriguing items are the carnival passes, which comes in two flavours: a free pass from the patch and a paid pass from the Holiday Bonus Pack. These are prepping you for a limited time carnival event that’s due to kick off in Altissia on January 24th.

And if that’s not already enough Final Fantasy XV goodies to look forward to, there’s still more to come. At GDC in San Francisco late next month, there’ll be a panel featuring Dan Inoue, Lead Writer and Localization Director of FFXV. The panel will be called “Bringing Fantasy to Life in Final Fantasy XV” and will talk about the challenges of maintaining a cohesive narrative across companion projects and promotions, and strategies for turning the universe to your advantage.

Indeed, Square Enix are throwing a lot of support at Final Fantasy XV, and we here at TiX Towers are stoked to see how the already great game grows over time.

Mass Effect: Andromeda won’t have a season pass

The inclusion of season passes for games has become ubiquitous with new releases for several years now, offering up a slightly cheaper way to get a set of planned DLC with your latest purchase. It’s a bit of a cheeky proposition, asking consumers to pay extra on top of the already pricey products for content down the road, especially when many feel this content should be included as part of the full price. Fortunately, PC Gamer spotted a Twitter conversation that suggests Mass Effect: Andromeda, which received a firm release date the other day, won’t have a season pass.

Twitter user coldboy33 tweeted BioWare’s General Manager Aaryn Flynn and asked him whether Mass Effect Andromeda will be receiving a season pass, to which Flynn’s answer was a straight up “no”. However, when pushed for more details on whether there were any DLC plans for Mass Effect: Andromeda, Flynn replied that “We’ll talk more about this later”.

mass-effect-andromeda-tweet

So perhaps it’s too early to rejoice about the lack of a season pass. It seems likely from that response that paid DLC will still be present for the space opera RPG, and we may all be worse off if we have to buy it individually. One step forwards, two steps back.
