Today SEGA have confirmed that Shenmue I and II will hit console on August 21. Originally released on the Dreamcast, Shemnue hit cult acclaim and for years fans have been calling for a third title to finish off the story. Eventually this became a reality when Shenmue III appeared as a kickstarter.
Now that the first games are slated for an Xbox One release, will the third title also find its way onto the console?
Meggan Scavio, who is currently the GM for GDC Events at UBM TechWeb and has in the past also been Director at Game Developers Conference and Director of Operations at CMP Media, posted a great picture recently on twitter confirming that the gaming legend Yu Suzuki has talked Shenmue III strategy with Mark Cerny.
Mark Cerny is a name you might not recognise immediately, but gaming credits include Killzone 3, Uncharted Drakes Fortune, Rachet and Clank amongst many other top Playstation titles over the years. He is also the lead architect of Sony’s PlayStation 4 console.

A twitter verified and very well known French Journalist has taken to twitter to confirm that SEGA’s Yu Suzuki (and my all-time hero) is looking at the possibilities of funding Shenmue 3. He created well known games such as Virtua Racing, Hang-On, Virtua Fighter and more spectacularly – the Shenmue series of games for the Sega Dreamcast. It seems his plans for a third entry in the popular franchise which is well overdue could be backed by a funding model similar to Kickstarter?

Quite some time ago thisisxbox was informed that both Shenmue and Shenmue II have been HD-fied for an Xbox LIVE Arcade release, but SEGA are sitting on the fence until they are clear about Shenmue’s future.
The French journalist also delivers the news that Shenmue could be continued in a Manga/Anime setting:
