Release date announced for Death Squared

Death Squared

Back in December, we brought you news that SGM Studio’s co-op puzzler, Death Squared, would be coming to Xbox in early 2017. SMG have now revealed just when that will be.

Death Squared will follow a team of defenceless robots, trying to escape a treacherous science facility. This co-operative puzzler is more than guaranteed to test friendships and challenge your problem-solving skills.

You will guide teams of two or four robots to their respective colour-coded waypoints in increasingly complex levels. It won’t be quite as easy as leading them to safety however. Deadly traps litter the path and can be tripped by hasty sprinters or sneaky, uncooperative friends. These will send your vulnerable cuboid companion to the great big robot-graveyard in the sky.

If one of your team meets it’s demise, then the entire squad will have to return to the beginning of the level. You’ll have to learn to work together to complete each stage, either through trial and error or through a careful and logical appraoch. This won’t stop the level from springing some surprises on you though.

In addition to a two-player story mode, Death Squared includes ‘Party Chaos’ challenges, specifically designed for groups of four. If you’re a little short on friends, a single player can also enjoy the traditional two-player story mode. Similarly, two players can tackle the ‘Party Chaos’. This set up allows you to control two robots with one controller, which sounds quite challenging.

SGM Studio’s lead desinger, Patrick Cook;

Death Squared began as a simple cooperative concept focused on minimal direction and having players answer a simple question. What do we do? It’s been a pleasure building that idea into a game that can be enjoyed as individuals, groups and people of all ages and skill levels. The response from fans has been wonderful and we’re eager to finally let people play it at home.

If you’re lucky enough to be off to RTX Sydney this coming weekend of the 4th & 5th of February, Death Squared will be playable and debuting all-new stages and exclusive content.

Now, the all-inportant release date. Death Squared will be hitting the Xbox One on the 14th of March.

Here are a couple of the developers playing the  game at PAX East 2016.

Death Squared announced for early 2017

Death squared is a cooperative puzzle game from SMG Studio where defenseless robots must navigate a maze filled with deadly traps and ally-killing hazards, will feature Xbox One-exclusive levels when it launches early 2017.

The cooperative puzzled game looks great with team work being the most important element to set the little robots free from the hazards inside the laboratory. The founder of Australia based SMG Studio Patrick Cook said:

“Death Squared rewards strong communication and instantly gives a crash course on its importance to gamers lacking the skill, Failure is part of the solution process, and through trial and error as well as teamwork, everyone can survive Death Squared‘s gauntlet of puzzles…whether friendships are still intact is a different story.”
