Something for the weekend: The console war is over

WIRED go through the console generations to find out just which console is really deserving of being crowned victor in the console war. While the testing methods are rather dubious, the slow-motion cam is pretty stunning with the impact rippling through each console’s structure – I can’t say I was surprised at who the winner is, which just so happens to be one of my favourite consoles.

Enjoy, and have a great weekend!

Here’s how the Xbox One and the PS4 got on during the “Battle Damage” tests

Something for the weekend: Evolution of the Video Game

This week it’s all about Evolve. 2K’s monster game has arrived in stores and sees four hunters team up against a larger than life monster that “Evolves” throughout the course of the game.

For this week’s Something for the Weekend I give you the Evolution of the Video Game – see what I did there! Featuring Pong, Space Invaders, Super Mario Brothers, Street Fighter, Minecraft, Battlefield 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5 – Pixel Storm Films serves up a monstrous walk through some gaming milestones.

Happy Friday and enjoy the weekend!

Something for the weekend: Game Wars

Is it me or did the week just fly by? Rushing past without so much as a hello or a goodbye! It’s Friday again and that means it’s time for something for the weekend. This week I give you the talented (and funny) Andrew McMurry and his game war video parodies.

So who would win – Mario or Minecraft’s Steve? Dovahkiin versus Vault Boy? Take a look below and keep an eye out for Andrew’s next project!

Something for the Weekend: The arcade living room

There’s nothing more satisfying than popping to the local arcade with a handful of 20p pieces and playing your favourite Arcade cabinet – the problem is that these cabinets are slowly becoming extinct – enter the internet arcade, a place of emulated arcade cabinets that you can play through your web browser, well unless you are using Chrome.

Firefox seems to work best but if Cabinet arcades aren’t your thing then there’s a whole host of yesteryear consoles to choose from including a comprehensive collection of Mega Drive games – kiss goodbye to your weekend!

Something For The weekend: Unlockables then and now

We’re back! Welcome to the start of 2015’s ‘Something for the weekend’, a weekly post that has a tenuous link to gaming. This week we bring you the online comic artist Scott Ramsoomair of VGCATS.com and issue #318 in particular – Skillz.

The way you earn stuff ingame has taken a decline with the greed of publishers and their micro-transactions that offer a way to bypass earning items by buying them with real money, this is portrayed perfectly in Scott’s depiction of how stuff was earned ‘then’ and ‘now’.

Enjoy and don’t forget to go and check him out online and on twitter.

Something for the weekend: Christmas gaming Jumpers

SF jumper

The Christmas jumper, something of a tradition that seems to have become cool in the last few years. It’s no surprise then that your favourite films, TV series  and even games have got in on the action (and charging a pretty penny too). Check out TiX’s favourite Christmas jumpers below – Christmas is just around the corner but it’s not too late to secure your Christmas gamer jumper!

Ok ok so we cheated a bit with one or two Christmas t-shirts! Did we miss your favourite jumper? Let us know in the comments below

Something for the weekend: The real-life HADOUKEN!

Wouldn’t it be pretty cool to shoot fireballs like Ryu? The Pyro Fireshooter allows you to do just that! Developed by professional magician Adam Wilber, the device has primarily been created for fellow illusionists but I reckon it’s only a matter of time before a fanatical Ryu fan completes the cosplay and actually shoots out a fireball from their palm complete with the infamous HADOUKEN!

The Pyro Fireshooter is available for $174 and is due for release on December 17th. I know what I want for Christmas…
