Star Wars Battlefront Death Star DLC detailed

This is Red 5, I’m going in.

Star Wars Battlefront’s next DLC might just be the coolest piece of DLC to grace the Xbox store – finally you’ll be able to take on a multiplayer Death Star trench run.

The new mode is called Battle Station and is set on and above the Death Star over three phases. The battle begins with X-wings and A-wings versus the Empire’s Tie fighters – once locked in, Y-wings bomb a Star Destroyer, taking down its defenses so that the main force can attack.

Next gameplay shifts to the corridors of the Death Star. Rebel forces have to retrieve a droid – with heroes Bossk and Chewbacca available as power ups.

The mode’s climax is the destruction of the Death Star, achieved by becoming Luke and flying Red-5 in the famous trench run sequence – how awesome is that!

Battlefront visits Bespin in new DLC

Str Wars Battlefront Bespin

When I first watched The Empire Strikes Back, I have to admit, I thought it was the dullest film of the original trilogy. A filler if you will. Not a great deal happened other than the rogueish Han Solo was snatched and frozen from the Cloud City on Bespin and Luke discovered something about the Dark Side. It was dull, but the Bespin scenes were the best parts of the film.

It’s a good thing then, that EA have decided that the next DLC for Star Wars Battlefront will be visiting the Gas Mining plant of Cloud City on Bespin. The city is vast and there are many levels in the floating metropolis.

The Bespin DLC will introduce the City’s administrator, Lando Calrissian and Bounty Hunter, Dengar as playable characters in the game, as well as five multiplayer maps set in different areas of the city. Shoot Storm Troopers in the halls of the Administrator’s Palace or the dark, steamy Carbon-Freezing Chambers among others.

If you’d prefer to take to the skies, you will be able to jump into the odd twin cockpit Cloud Car. If firepower is more your thing, two new weapons will be introduced in this DLC. The X8 Night Sniper is a blaster pistol with decent damage, cooling power and range. It boasts an enhanced scope and heat vision. The EE4 has a short, stubby barrel to allow it to fire more effectively at a closer range, with a high rate of fire.

You can choose to take advantage of these in the new Sabotage game mode, along with Scout binoculars, Shock Grenades and a localised Disruption Wave available as Star Cards.

The Bespin DLC will available from the 21st of June with the Season Pass and roughly two weeks later as a standalone purchase.

Here’s some Galaxy far, far away action to be going on with.

Star Wars Battlefront looks to the stars

Starwars-BattlefrontRoadmap

It was only a few days ago that I was writing about how EA was reaching out to its community to help further develop their games and include content that the players wanted. Now this is not new as has been done for a while with the Battlefield Series, even if some of it fell on deaf ears. However EA and its associated development teams seem to have gone into overdrive for the new year and over the last 48hrs we’ve been bombarded with news of free content, map updates, scheduled development and release plans for the coming months. Included in this wealth of information was Star Wars Battlefront.

As of today, well after the maintenance period is over, players will be treated to a few nice amendments in the already great Star Wars Battlefront game and just for you here is what you can expect.

  • The Tatooine Survival map will now support the Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains multiplayer modes, and is called Raider Camp.
  • New Hoth-themed outfits for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, both of which will be available to all fans when they play as these two iconic characters on Hoth – these were unlocked for completing the Heroes’ Holiday community mission last month.
  • Players will have the ability to create Private Matches, which makes playing with friends even easier.
  • The introduction of Daily Challenges and Community Events.
  • Some overall balancing tweaks to both weapons and multiplayer modes.

It doesn’t stop there though and in February DICE have promised to add even more content including a new Survival mission on Hoth, and a brand-new Hoth multiplayer map that will support the larger game modes including Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron and Turning Point. Turning Point will also be expanded to become available on all maps that currently support Walker Assault and Supremacy.

March has more content in the form of another new multiplayer map on Endor that will support Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, and an additional Tatooine Survival map.

So all in all not bad for the next few months and whats even better is that it’s all free, but what about the Season Pass holders?

Just to keep everyone happy DICE have also provided information about the four digital expansion packs that will form the DLC to the game and will be free to season pass holders or purchasable on an individual basis to all others.

  • Star Wars Battlefront Outer Rim (March 2016) – Fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine
  • Star Wars Battlefront Bespin (Summer 2016) – It’s hunt or be hunted in this action-packed experience set in the Cloud City of Bespin
  • Star Wars Battlefront Death Star (Fall 2016) – That’s no moon! One of the most iconic locations in the Star Wars universe makes its debut in Star Wars Battlefront.
  • Star Wars Battlefront Expansion Pack 4 – Title TBA (Early 2017) – more news to follow in the coming months.

Personally I cannot wait to Fall 2016 when we can battle on the Death Star but until then it looks like DICE are providing us with enough content to keep everyone happy. So what are your thoughts on the update and if you could pick a location to add to the game what would it be, let us know?

Star Wars Battlefront: 12 million strong and counting

Star Wars mania has been unavoidable. The new film was the smash hit of the Holiday period and it now seems possible to have a Star Wars product for every walk of life, from new toys to a R2-D2 air humidifier nothing has been left untouched by Disney.

The Star Wars: Battlefront game has also done exceptionally well selling 12 million copies to date – that’s enough to fill both Death Stars, complete crew and then some. This isn’t a huge surprise as the franchise has the power force to pull people into games that may have abstained otherwise. Whilst the comment sections on reviews may have you believe it hasn’t sold well, the game lobbies on consoles tell a different story.

If you’re a fan of the series and a gamer it’s probable that you may already own a copy, and it’s easy to see why it’s done so well. Short of being in a Star Wars movie, this is as close as you’re going to get to being in a galaxy far far away, the sounds and sights are massively immersive and with a decent pair of headphones, you’d swear you were on Hoth itself (minus the need to cut open a Tauntaun for survival purposes).

So, whether you want to be Rebel scum or a swanky Stormtrooper, Battlefront is a solid go to for your Star wars kick.

Shooter of the Year

The year is coming to a close and so it’s time once again to take a look back at all the great games that have been released in 2015.

Every day up until the end of the year we’ll be revealing our top three games from a number of different categories, all the way up until the coveted Game of the Year reveal.

Next up is Shooter of the Year.

Third Place – Halo 5: Guardians

As the middle game in a new Halo trilogy, Halo 5’s storytelling struggles slightly but superb enhancements to the familiar, arcade action that Halo is so well known for still put this entry near the top of our Game of the Year list.

Dave Moran reviewed Halo 5 and commented on the excellent new mobility, describing it as:

…the best mobility and skill set I’ve ever used while playing as a Spartan.

and allowing

…plenty of ways to reach an objective or to deal with a group of enemies.

Meanwhile, an excellent multiplayer suite with the terrific new War Zone mode offers oodles of replayability.

Indeed the Halo series remains strong with this latest entry and Halo 5 is well deserving of a top three position in out Shooter of the Year category.

Halo 5 Warzone

Second Place – Rainbow 6 Siege

Rainbow 6 Siege brings back the much loved, tactical, military shooter along with some exceptional enhancements that make the team-based gunplay even more compelling.

Richard Berry reviewed Siege and said

It’s a thrilling experience and one that can play out in any number of different ways…

and indeed this ability to offer so many different scenarios within its ten maps is part of why we can’t stop playing it over at TiX towers. The destructibility, and intractable enemies makes this latest iteration in the Rainbow 6 saga a stunning success, one that so nearly took top spot as Shooter of the Year.

Explosions

Shooter of the Game – Star Wars: Battlefront

The last year has been a strongly hyped build up to both a new Star Wars film and the revival of the Battlefront series. And despite fears over content and quality, once the new Star Wars shooter finally released it made a strong impression on even the most cynical of Star Wars fans.

The authenticity to the source material is phenomenal, as Richard Berry says in his review

DICE have lovingly recreated the universe of Star Wars. From cargo crates and power couplings to X-Wings and Lightsabers – nothing has been left to chance or imitation – everything has been modelled from the original props and it makes for a wonderful experience and looks absolutely stunning.

We at TiX towers couldn’t agree more but we all agree that our Star Wars love may be clouding our judgement. We searched our minds, quelled the dark side, and voted, and by a mere single vote Star Wars Battlefront beat out Rainbow 6 Siege for Shooter of the Year.

Be sure to check out the site again tomorrow to see the next category and its winner.

Honourable mentions go to Gears of War Ultimate Edition, World of Tanks Xbox One Edition, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Wolfenstien: The Old Blood, all of which were nominated by the TiX team but didn’t quite make the cut.
