There are many things in the evolution of games that can be compared. First-person shooters inevitably get compared to each other. Back in 1987, a top-down cops and robbers game called APB was released on the home computer systems at the time, and was great fun. 10 years later a top-down cops and robbers game called Grand Theft Auto was released.
Over the intervening years GTA developed into the third-person perspective adventure that we’ve come to know and love and APB looks like it’s headed in the same direction.
Deep Silver, Reloaded Games and The Workshop Entertainment have announced that the PC hit MMO, APB Reloaded, will be coming to Xbox One, late in the second quarter of this year.
When it’s released, the game will be free-to-play for Xbox Live Gold members and will put you in the near-future city of San Paro, where you will pick one of two factions to play as. Choose “Enforcer” and you’ll be responsible for upholding the city’s fragile martial law. Choose “Criminal” and you’ll be tasked with causing maximum mayhem across the city.
The game promises to offer a fully immersive world, with one of the most extensive character and vehicle customisation systems on any MMO. The game will be driven by PvP experiences with up to 50 PvP missions happening at any one time, in real time, across San Paro.
CEO of Reloaded Games, Bjorn Brook-Larsson enthused,
Over the past year it has been great working with Deep Silver and their experienced publishing teams from the Saints Row, Homefront and Dead Island franchises, as well as with the veteran development team at The Workshop, led by great members of the Tony Hawk, Call of Duty 3, The Evil Within and Borderlands 2 teams, and getting their deep insight into how we can best transform APB Reloaded into a great console experience.
Players will be given the opportunity to earn in game items for free and there will also be the chance to purchase in-game gear, vehicles, items and customisations that will enhance your character’s playing styles.
APB Reloaded is shaping up to be the next evolutionary step in the cops and robbers genre and should be out, around the summertime this year.
