Ghost Recon Wildlands’ Year 2 plans detailed

Ubisoft have made quite the impression on the game’s industry with their continued support for games they have released. Ghost Recon Wildlands is the latest title to receive additional content into its second year of release.

Over 10 million players stepped into the world of Bolivia to take on the Santa Blanca Cartel, so it may come as no surprise to learn that Ubisoft have a year 2 program mapped out for the game, which includes free multiplayer and campaign content.

Launching on April 10, year 2 kicks off with ‘Special Operation 1 – the first of four major updates, each featuring a unique theme – and the first update includes the following:

  • Teammate Customisation: The most requested feature by the community, Team Customisation will allow players to customise teammate outfits with all items they have unlocked for their own character
  • PvP Update: A new game mode called “Sabotage” with five exclusive maps, the first of six new PvP classes for Year 2 and new perk and explosive device
  • PvE Update: A free, themed PvE mission and special challenge with exclusive rewards.
  • Special Operation I includes the content planned for Updates 5 & 6 from the original Ghost War roadmap.

With a second year of content there is also a second year season pass to consider, which grants an early seven day access to the six new Ghost War classes, an exclusive customisation pack, and eight Battle Crates (four Special Ops crates and four Ghost War crates).

Here’s hoping we get more timed events like the excellent Predator mission.

Ghost Recon Wildlands gets free update called ‘New Assignment’

Ubisoft announced that ‘New Assignment’, the new free update for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Wildlands, is now available on Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.

‘New Assignment’ continues to expand the Ghost War experience by adding three new classes, completing the total of six additional classes planned to be introduced within the span of the Ghost War roadmap. Available in all PvP modes, the new classes introduced in ‘New Assignment’ are:

· The Trapper: an expert shooter, equipped with a semi-automatic sniper rifle with the ability to mark downed enemies and deploy remote KO-gas traps to stun and damage enemies
· The Guerilla: a support-class, specialised in diversion tactics and equipped with a smoke-grenade launcher drone
· The Stalker: a sharpshooter, specialised in silently dispatching her enemies thanks to her special abilities

With 18 diverse classes to choose from, players will have more tactical options and ways to approach situations on the Ghost War battlefield than ever before.

‘New Assignment’ will also introduce two new maps, “Refinery” and “Cliffside,” available for the Extraction mode exclusively, as well as a series of updates addressing player feedback for both PvP and PvE modes. A new map-voting tool will allow players to vote for one of three possible Ghost War maps, each from a different game mode, at the start of every new PvP Quickplay and Ranked match.

The new maps and gameplay updates will be available free and simultaneously to all players. Season Pass and Ghost War Pass owners will immediately unlock the three new classes with an exclusive seven-day early access, while other players will be able to unlock classes with Prestige credits earned through progression or via purchasing them in the in-game store. These classes round off the PvP content included in the Season Pass and Ghost War Pass offers.

Predator comes to Ghost Recon Wildlands

Ubisoft have announced a partnership with FoxNext Games that will bring exclusive Predator content to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands with the release of the Jungle Storm update on PS4, Xbox One and PC on December 14th, 2017. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the original Predator movie, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands introduces a wealth of exclusive Predator content to the main game and Ghost War PvP modes.

Starting December 14 until early January, all players of Ghost Recon Wildlands will be able to face the Predator in the game’s ultimate hunt. This new Predator Special Challenge is playable solo or up to four-player co-op and is the most difficult fight of all in Ghost Recon Wildlands.

Upon defeating the Predator, players will be rewarded with exclusive items, such as the Predator mask, which offers the much renowned Predator vision. In addition to rewards for completing the challenge, players can further customise and arm their Ghosts with the Predator Pack, which includes 15 new customisation items, weapons and an exclusive close combat move, to recreate some of the most memorable characters from the original movie.

With its ability to engage in Battle Rage mode, the new Ghost War class, inspired by main character Dutch from the original Predator movie, will offer offensive players a new alternative to create strategies and tactics on the PVP battleground. Ghost War players will be able to access the new class through the Ghost War Pass or the Season Pass, or by using their Prestige points directly.

“At Ubisoft Paris, we have been fans of the Predator movie for a long time and are thrilled to bring such an iconic character to our game,” said Nouredine Abboud, Senior Producer at Ubisoft. “The challenge is full of references to the original Predator movie and we cannot wait to see the reaction from our players.”

“The Predator is a perfect fit for the Bolivian Jungle of Ghost Recon Wildlands, and fits flawlessly within the tense and tactical gameplay of the franchise from Ubisoft,” said Rick Phillips, President of FoxNext Games.

Jungle Storm also expands Ghost War’s scope, introducing ranked play, the new Pathfinder class, as well new gear and gameplay updates for both the base game and the PvP modes.

Ubisoft release Ghost Recon Wildlands TV Spot ‘Ruthless’

Ubisoft have released their TV Spot for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, entitled “Ruthless”. This action-packed piece has been directed by the legendary John McTiernan (Die Hard, Predator) depicts the Ghosts’ first mission in Bolivia, where they will try to take down the Santa Blanca cartel.

This TV Spot is not the first work by John McTiernan for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, having also directed the unique Red Dot live trailer, released earlier this year and which revealed an interesting relationship between a red dot, a cat and… Cartel members. While Red Dot shows the merciless efficiency of the Ghosts, Ruthless shows the cruelty of the Cartel.

You can watch Red Dot below:

Players will be able to take on the Cartel themselves from today as the Open Beta for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands is now live until February 27th. This Open Beta introduces players to two provinces from amongst the 21 available in the game: Itacua, a flourishing and mountainous region, where the grip of the cartel is looser, allows players to perfect their sniping skill and become acquainted to the Wildlands. Montuyoc, set in the snowy Altiplano and the second province available in this Open Beta, is much more challenging as it hosts Santa Blanca elite training centres.

Ghost Recon Wildlands is bringing a live action short to the screen

Now you can’t say Ubisoft is sitting back when it comes to the build up for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands. Not a day goes by when there isn’t some sort of news, update or video being published and therefore why should today be any different.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands: War Within The Cartel is an upcoming 30-minute promotional live-action drama set within the game’s world. The short is the story of the Santa Blanca drug cartel and the hunt for a traitor within it ranks, which then leads nicely into the game itself. Headed up by Executive Producer Roberto Orci, screenwriter for films such as the 2009 Star Trek, Transformers and The Amazing Spiderman the live action short also features rapper /actor TIP “T.I.” Harris, as Santa Blanca member Marcus.

The War Within The Cartel is a joint collaboration between Twitch and Amazon and will premiere on the 16th February on Ubisoft’s Twitch channel and following this the short will be available on Amazon Prime to watch.

Ghost Recon Wildlands will be released on the 7th of March for Xbox One and PC.
