More Forza Motorsport 5 Cars Revealed

Each and every week Turn 10 Studios and Microsoft are revealing new cars that we’ll be playing in Forza Motorsport 5. With now just 44 days until release, meet the 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO and 2011 Koenigsegg Agera.

Forza 5 Ferrari 599 GTO

2011 Ferrari 599 GTO

Gran turismo omologata–it means “certified for grand touring racing” in Italian, and Ferrari doesn’t use that designation lightly. When the 599 GTB went in for the GTO treatment, they had only to look to the decidedly not-street-legal 599XX version for inspiration. The result is a lighter, more powerful 599 that carries on Ferrari’s long tradition of using racing to pioneer technology for road cars.

Following the formula of the legendary 250 GTO of the 1960s, this hotter version of Ferrari’s halo car puts a 6-liter V12 out front that delivers a tarmac-blistering 670 horsepower, making the 599 GTO not only the most powerful Ferrari road car ever, but also the fastest. That’s not just the fastest to 60 miles per hour; it also means that by cutting more than 200 pounds from the GTB and optimizing every system—from the instantly adjustable magnetic suspension system to the lightweight carbon ceramic brakes—it will fly around Ferrari’s private Fiorano test track a full second quicker than the wickedly fast Enzo.

With lessons learned from Ferrari’s F1 program, the 599 GTO’s optimized aerodynamics ensure that the 599 GTO can achieve a top speed of 208 miles per hour, and yet the intelligent suspension and the stability and traction control systems mean that the GTO won’t bite the hand that shifts. With only 599 examples ever produced, the flagship Ferrari is as rare as it is fast.

Forza 5 2011 Koenigsegg Agera

2011 Koenigsegg Agera

The Veyron may be (slightly) faster, but the Agera has to be the most interesting of the current breed of hypercar. It certainly has the requisite manic power numbers courtesy of a 940 horsepower twin-turbo 5-liter V8. With a top speed of greater than 260 mph and a sub-three-second 0-60 mph time, no one can deny its performance. But Christian von Koenigsegg’s genius is in making his cars boldly distinctive, and while the CCX and its derivatives are definitely that, the Agera is a further evolution of the theme.

From every angle the new composite body (draped over a variant of the CCX’s incredibly stiff chassis) is fascinating, and it also provides improved downforce. For example, those halo-shaped taillights surround heat-extracting vents to help cool the engine. And the wheels are specially designed as vortex generators, cooling the brakes and increasing downforce. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Koenigsegg without some special details like the wraparound windshield, distinctive cockpit, and the ghost on the engine cover. Ghost? Yes, it’s a tribute to a Swedish air force squadron that previously occupied Koenigsegg’s Ängelholm facility and used the ghost as their emblem.

Forza 5 Mandatory Day-One Download To Play

forza 5

Microsoft’s ever-so-successful racing franchise, Forza is readying up to become a launch title for Xbox One this November. Developers’ Turn 10 Studios has confirmed to IGN that a mandatory one time connection to Xbox LIVE is necessary before gameplay with their upcoming Forza 5. Before going all gamer-bitch, keep in mind that the Xbox One was initially designed to be an ‘always online’ console so now with the new changes to Xbox One’s DRM Policies some games have had to make changes to allow offline play.

Another reason the Day-One download from Xbox LIVE is necessary is that the game will not be complete at launch. In other words, the game you buy on the disc will be incomplete and will require the rest of it to be downloaded from Xbox LIVE.

“So when you first boot up the game, we’re going to ask you to log in,” Turn 10 explained to IGN “And when you log in you’re going to get the Drivatars and you’re also going to get a whole bunch of content: tracks and cars. Our production schedule is such that we are putting them in as late as possible and that means making them free as downloadable content on Day One…”

“We’re not making a launch game. We’re making Forza 5, at launch.”

Microsoft Hint at Next-Gen EA and Forza Game For May 21 Reveal

xbox_logo_2013

A recent competition from Microsoft’s Xbox division has led to speculation that something with EA and Turn 10 Studio’s will be heavily featured at the E3 2013 Media Briefing on June 10th. The competition running up until May 20th is encouraging gamers to tweet @EA, @Xbox, @PlayXBLA and @Turn10 in order to win entrance to the event. The event that will ultimately reveal the new generation of Xbox console, and the brands future.

Other rumours this past week have suggested that an EA title is in the works for the next Xbox console which could be a console exclusive, with all fingers pointing in the direction of Respawn Entertainment. The ex Call of Duty development team has had something cooking for EA since the company was formed in 2010 and is rumoured to be something futuristic since registering a trademark for the word “TITAN”

Turn 10 Studio’s, famed for developing the Forza series of racing titles could launch a brand new Forza game for the next Xbox and showcase a stunning next-gen iteration during the console reveal in a few weeks. Having previously advertised job listings for Art Directors to help define “the cinematics vision and techniques needed to achieve exceptionally high quality content for our Next Generation of games.” – it’s considered all but a confirmation that we’ll be driving around a few circuits at launch this year.

With a focus on the new generation Xbox console on May 21st and its exclusives, we’ll drop all the news as it happens, but expect that you’ll be watching live on your console or from Xbox.com too.

Forza Horizon: April Top Gear Pack

Download-Now-Forza-Horizon-April-Top-Gear-Car-Pack-DLC-via-Xbox-Live

The April Top Gear Car Pack launches today for “Forza Horizon”, featuring six new cars specifically selected by the Top Gear Magazine team and Turn 10 Studios’ developers, as well as two car models appearing for the first time: the 2012 Bowler EXR S and the 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato. Included in the pack for free for all “Forza Horizon” fans is the ultra-rare 2002 BMW M3-GTR.

The April Top Gear Car Pack is available to download now on Xbox LIVE for 400 Microsoft Points. Players who own the “Forza Horizon” Season Pass will be able to download the April Top Gear Car Pack for no additional cost.

The April Top Gear Car Pack includes:

  • 2011 Ford Transit SuperSportVan – The SuperSportVan is the latest creation in a long-standing series of Ford-built custom transit vans dating back to 1971. The 2011 Ford Transit SuperSportvan dons Le Mans bonnet stripes and an eye-catching livery on the outside. Inside is the 3.2-liter, 198-horsepower engine taken from the much larger Transit Jumbo. What’s the point? It’s a one-off design to show that Ford engineers can have fun too, and it was unveiled at the 2011 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, U.K. It also presents a vast canvas for designs and further customisation for “Forza Horizon” fans.
  • 1998 Mercedes-Benz AMG Mercedes CLK GTR – Only a street car in the loosest sense of the word, the CLK-GTR is nearly identical to its pure racing counterpart, which dominated the GT1 class at Le Mans so thoroughly that after a few wins no competitor wished to challenge it. Buying a CLK-GTR to use for lightning-quick grocery runs is a questionable plan, but for dominating your friends in Horizon’s Colorado, there are few street-licensable cars that can keep up, putting these drivers in a very exclusive club.
  • 2012 Aston Martin Vanquish – With styling nods to previous Astons and a welcomed upgrade in the engine department, the new Vanquish retains much of the familiar Aston Martin grace, while still receiving a much needed boost in performance. Its 565-horsepower V12 produces a pleasing growl and will zip the car past nearly everyone else on the highway, all while you bask in the Vanquish’s considerable interior creature comforts.
  • 2012 Bowler EXR S – The Bowler EXR S is the result of the 2012 brand partnership between Land Rover and U.K.-based rally raid manufacturer Bowler. The striking all-terrain vehicle is fitted with a modified version of the Range Rover Sport’s supercharged 5.0-litre V8, and produces 550 bhp, giving it a top speed of more than 150 mph. The first Bowler designed for road use, the EXR S is equally at home in the deepest parts of Horizon’s back roads.
  • 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato – Combine traditional Alfa elegance with 600 horsepower of pure Dodge fury and what do you get? The 2011 Alfa Romeo TZ3 Stradale Zagato. This street-legal sports car features an 8.4-litre V10 and the kind of gorgeous curves you’d expect from Italian design center Zagato. In short, this one’s as easy on the eyes and as it is fun on the road.
  • 2002 BMW M3-GTR (FREE Download) – The 2002 BMW M3-GTR is synonymous with rarity. As BMW puts it, “The GTRs (both race and street copies) were never sold to anyone. Only three street copies were built. Not all three were ever shown. A street copy was shown in the U.S. only once, and for less than an hour.” Little wonder, then, that this M3 is bound to be a prize for “Forza Horizon” players.

Where Cars Belong: “Forza Horizon” is available now on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and anywhere games are sold. Car packs are available individually or as part of the “Forza Horizon” Season Pass (4,000 Microsoft Points), which also includes the Rally Expansion Pack.
