E3 Fallout Shelter additional details

Fallout Shelter

Good morning, and what a morning it is. Are you still spinning from all the news from the Bethesda conference? Yeah, me too. So let’s kick start this Monday morning with something a little more relaxing. Carrying on from Bethesda Conference Round-Up from Greg, we briefly touched on the announcement of a Vault builder app coming to iOS platforms. We’ve covered the additional details below:

Already available for free, Fallout Shelter puts you in control of a state-of-the-art underground Vault from Vault-Tec. Build the perfect Vault, keep your Dwellers happy, and protect them from the dangers of the Wasteland. Vault-Tec has provided the tools, but the rest is up to you. What are you waiting for?

Key features include

  • creating a brighter future…underground! Select from a variety of modern-day rooms to turn an excavation beneath 2,000 feet of bedrock into the very picture of Vault Life.
  • Get to know your Dwellers and lead them to happiness. Find their ideal jobs and watch them flourish. Provide them with outfits, weapons, and training to improve their abilities.
  • A well-run Vault requires a variety of Dwellers with a mix of skills. Build a Radio Room to attract new Dwellers. Or, take an active role in their personal lives; play matchmaker and watch the sparks fly!
  • Send Dwellers above ground to explore the blasted surface left behind and seek adventure, handy survival loot, or unspeakable death. Find new armor and weapons, gain experience, and earn Caps! But don’t let them die!
  • From time to time, idyllic Vault life may be disrupted by the dangers of post-nuclear life. Prepare your Dwellers to protect against threats from the outside…and within.

Compatibility: Fallout Shelter is only available for iOS and requires iOS7 or later. Fallout Shelter is compatible with iPhone 5 or later, iPad Mini 2 or later, iPad 3 or later and is optimized for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPad Air 2.  We’ll see a later release for Android and maybe even Windows Phone…. or at least we can live in hope, right?

Xbox One and PC Cross-Platform

Earlier in the week Microsoft Studios VP Phil Spencer was caught  in an interview with AusGamers, where he commented a “connected ecosystem” across a wide range of devices is where he sees “the future of gaming.”

This connected ecosystem across all the different devices is definitely where I think the future of gaming is going. You don’t have to do it as a developer, but you have the capability and I think a system like Xbox Live across all those screens where you know who someone is and who their friends are, what their Achievements are and their progression is really critical to that.

During the interview he brought up Shadowrun, a cross-platform multiplayer game that launched on the Xbox 360 and PC in 2007. Although a title Microsoft definitely learnt a lot from, it failed to achieve any resemblance of financial success on either PC or 360.

So is our friend Phil Spencer talking about real cross platform gaming or just companion apps and stat checking? I’d definitely love to team up with some PC players when Dead Rising 3 is released. What do you guys think?

Microsoft Acquires Nokia’s Mobile Phones Business Unit

Both Microsoft and Nokia have recently announced that Microsoft will purchase substantially all of Nokia’s Devices & Services business, license Nokia’s patents, and license and use Nokia’s mapping services. This will put Microsoft in full control of the Lumia brand and have its own in-house mobile devices teams!

Quoted by Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO):

“It’s a bold step into the future – a win-win for employees, shareholders and consumers of both companies. Bringing these great teams together will accelerate Microsoft’s share and profits in phones, and strengthen the overall opportunities for both Microsoft and our partners across our entire family of devices and services…

We are excited and honored to be bringing Nokia’s incredible people, technologies and assets into our Microsoft family. Given our long partnership with Nokia and the many key Nokia leaders that are joining Microsoft, we anticipate a smooth transition and great execution,” Ballmer said. “With ongoing share growth and the synergies across marketing, branding and advertising, we expect this acquisition to be accretive to our adjusted earnings per share starting in FY15, and we see significant long-term revenue and profit opportunities for our shareholders.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will pay 3.79 billion Euro’s to purchase substantially all of Nokia’s Devices & Services business, and an extra 1.65 billion Euro’s to license Nokia’s patents, for a total transaction price of 5.44 billion Euro’s in cash! Microsoft will draw upon its overseas cash resources to fund the transaction which is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014, subject to approval by Nokia’s shareholders, regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

I wonder how long it will be before an Xbox branded phone hits the market?

#Drawtopia For Windows Phone Out Now – Taking Marketplace By Storm

Developers Super Smith Brothers, has released their second Window Phone game – Drawtopia which is available now from the marketplace for both Windows Phone 7.X and Windows Phone 8 devices at the cost of absolutely nothing! This FREE game is currently taking the Windows Marketplace by storm having now been listed in the Top 5 of the ‘New & Rising’ list in the US, and Top 10 and still rising in the United Kingdom.

So, what’s all the fuss about?

Unlike traditional puzzle games, Drawtopia features a physics based model based on user touch input. You are presented with a challenge that you must draw on screen with your fingers, but it is not as easy nor as simple as it may seem or appear. It’s highly addictive and described as a journey through colour and space as one ball undertakes an epic quest across some lines to reach an exit… or something like that anyway 🙂

Due to demand the developers have confirmed that DLC will be winging its way to the game in the near future.

You absolutely MUST download Drawtopia for yourself from the link below. It’s a fun game that once you start you’ll find it hard to put down!

A New Kickstarter Campaign is ‘LUMIN’

Earlier on this morning Shadow Galley Media announced their new Kickstarter campaign for LUMIN; their first major release, which if all goes to plan will be released in October for Windows Phone (and other Mobile OS’s) at a charge of… £0.00!

Check out their Kickstarter video:

To pull directly from their Kickstarter page;

LUMIN is a retro inspired side scrolling platform game about one girls journey to bring color back into her world. The player takes control of Katelyn Demissio, a young girl, as she journeys into the Kingdom of Lumin to rid the land of ‘The Grey’, restore color to the kingdom, and rescue the royal family. Of course, nothing is so straight forward and we soon learn prior to the games start that Katelyn is a lost member of the royal Lumin family who was taken from the kingdom by former master-at-arms Demissio during ‘The Grey’s’ invasion. On his deathbed Demissio reveals Katelyn’s true heritage and she sets out to save her family and bring color back to LUMIN. Many surprise twists and turns will be revealed during the games progression that will keep the player on their toes and wanting to see what comes next.

I am a massive supporter of getting more apps and games released on the Windows Phone platform. I was their when it was announced t0 the world and have supported it ever since. If you want, like me, to see new and unique games like this make it onto Windows Phone and help a new and promising young studio then head on over to their Kickstarter page and visit them on Instagram.
