The Riptide franchise has been around for a little while. In fact, I think it was one of the first games I reviewed on Xbox One. Vector Unit have stepped back into the fold with the announcement of the rapidly incoming Riptide GP: Renegade, coming very soon to Xbox One.
If you’ve not played Riptide before, where have you been? The concept is similar to Wipeout. You ride a futuristic gravity defying racing machine around several tracks in order to win not only the race, but a championship. The only major difference with Riptide is that this is done mainly over water and there are no weapons.
So, what will make Renegade stand out from the other Riptide GP titles? Well, it’s a Play Anywhere title for a start, meaning that you can pay once and play it on both Xbox and Windows 10, making it great value already. Renegade is the first Riptide title to be designed with consoles in mind rather than ported from the mobile platform.
So, next gen water racing is heading to Xbox One, utilising dynamic water physics and new spray-effects. Dodge police boats and drones while you blast through the vast interactive race environments packed with destructible objects, animated scenery and secret shortcuts.
Riptide GP: Renegade will offer up to 8 player online multiplayer racing or go split-screen in local couch co-op with up to six racers depending on your platform. As with the other title in the series, you can collect and upgrade a whole garage full of blisteringly fast hydro-jets that transform while you ride them. Win prize money to be able to purchase upgrades, customisations, paint jobs and numbers.
All of this will run on console in silky smooth super-fast 1080p at 60fps, even in split-screen.
Riptide GP: Renegade will be hitting the Xbox One and Windows 10 platform on the 24th of February.
