Polish developer EXOR Studios have taken a break from their usual zombie titles to announce a twin-stick shooter, tower defence hybrid game for Xbox One; X-Morph: Defense.

X-Morph will combine the two popular elements of an all action twin stick shooter and the more strategic tower defence. This title has a little twist on the usual game of this type. Instead of defending the planet from invading aliens, you are the alien, desperately trying to gain a foothold on the Earth.

The X-Morph are that alien species, and are out to harvest Earth’s resources and to terraform the surface. Use the build mode to strategise and pick various types of alien towers, or throw yourself right into the heat of the battle. Build mazes for incoming enemies in an environment built from EXOR Studios’ own Schmetterling Game Engine that allows you to plan with an immese amount of freedom. Tear down buildings and collapse bridges to support your defences or perhaps just to revel in the spectacle of destruction. Utilise a range of unique alien weapons and use defence strategies like you’ve never been able to before in this genre.

You will be able to build your towers anywhere on the map, and connect them with laser fences that will block enemy movement. These enemies have no predetermined path either. They will adapt to the changing battlefield and your tower placement, making the challenge that little bit more interesting. Different types of enemies will also need specific types of towers, so you’ll need to bring your A-game.

You won’t have to wait for the enemies to come to you though. Pilot the X-Morph fighter and take the battle to the enemy forces. This fighter can morph into four distinct fighter forms, each with a different weapon and special ability.

Use these alien weapons to fight the human forces that will include human mecha boss fights and are sure to guarantee destruction on a huge scale. If the action looks like it might be getting too much for you, well, you can always team up with a friend in split-screen two-player co-op.

X-Morph: Defense is coming to Xbox One soon.
